ok long story. i started volunteering at the new animal shelter in my home town this week. i have absolutley loved it. ok, so today i go to the shelter to adopt a dog. well who would we want to adopt but Luca, the shelter dog. tis dog is allowed to roam around the whole shelter wherever she wants. Katie is the kennel manager. totally cool girl. she used to date a guy who lived in the house in front of my apartment, and she used to come in the pub i worked at all the time. anyway, this dog is completely in love with katie. follows her everywhere. luca is very timid and scared though. Katie was excited that i was taking her but obviously sad. she said if there was the slightest problem she would take her because she was going to take her home if i didnt. so we get her home. she isthe best dog ever. so sweet. but really scared and she curled up on a blanket in the corner of the living room. and everyone was happy. and there was a warm happy feeling in all of our hearts and its time for me to go back to the shelter and clean up more do-do and bathe more animals, and i go skipping out the door. well as im leaving luca jumps up and pushes pastme and runs out the door. great. so we try the usual sweet talk. c'mon luca come in side. she bolts. she goes flying down the street.it was terrible. for the first 20 minutes she just runs back and forth down the street by our house. she completely ignored the hot dogs. finally she bolts down a street and we lost her completely. completely. the dog is awol. oh this is perfect. i just lost the kennel dog! so i go back home hot dog in hand( just picture me in the middle of the street screaming and holding out hotdogs) and call katie(who until now likes me just fine) and tell her the situation. shes heart broken and leaves the kennel immediately to try and find her beloved dog i managed to loose within half an hour. there was a little cussing and anger involved on her part but shes on her way. after searching the entire neighborhood for a literal hour and a half, she has to go to the kennel meeting she called. so i look another hour and finally give up. i have officially lost the kennel dog. i can never go back. everyone loved that dog. i called the vet earlier that morning to schedule a time for her to get fixed and the vet said, "oh! you adopted Luca? I love her! " yes. nicole is a failure to animals everywhere. well, long story short, another volunteer(who also just loooves Luca) lives near me and said shed keep an eye out. well lookie there. luca was found two blocks away from my home. after searching a total of 3 hours, the dog was two blocks away. i am the worst pet owner ever. so katie comes and gets her because she runs from everyone but katie, and katie takes her home. now katie called me to assure me that this was in no way my fault, and thanked me repeatedly for calling her and kept telling me how i did the right thing. blah blah blah. she probably didnt want to loose a volunteer. what a terrible day.

awwwwwwww....
Maybe she is supposed to be with Katie? And by recognizing what a beautiful animal she is, you hurried up the time it would have taken in the alternative...
You have no control over a dog getting away... they are free, magestic creatures, with a wil of their own, and you know you meant well ( beyond well, it come from loving) You did the best you could.. no reason to not volunteer.
Give it a few days for perspective and come on back. People aren't judging you as much as you could judge yourself.
to you.
