from what i learnt from my past call center job where we would answer bellsouth dsl customers about their connectivity issue... majority of the time it is spywares that block an internet connection for their own purpose of data robbery and collecting private information of users.this junk can accumulate in ur pc even though u surf otherwise reliable sites.
here, do this and let me know if it works (it usually works!)
download the free version of 'ad-aware' from www.lavasoft.com
...and spybot s&d from www.safer-networking.org. update both and then run them on ur system one after the other.
get rid of all the infection it shows and then reconnect to the net. these two were Microsoft recommended softwares until ms came out with its own crapy version.
P.S. certain softwares u might be using (eg, kazaa, bear share, etc...) will be blocked when u remove the infection. it doesnot mean this software is creating problems, but, its rather letting u know what certain softwares do behind the scenes.
