quote: Reggae is a music genre developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term is sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of Jamaican music, including ska, rocksteady and dub. The term is more specifically used to indicate a particular style that originated after the development of rocksteady. In this sense, reggae includes two subgenres: roots reggae (the original reggae) and dancehall reggae, which originated in the late 1970s.Reggae is founded upon a rhythm style characterized by regular chops on the back beat, known as the skank. The beat is generally slower than that found in reggae's precursors, ska and rocksteady. Reggae is often associated with the Rastafari movement, which influenced many prominent reggae musicians in the 1970s and 1980s. The songs lyrics deal with many subjects, including faith, love, sexuality and broad social issues.
i'm fond of a mix of latin and R&B music, (lisalisa and the cult jam) but original reggae orignated in jamaica, its not spanish, its not brazilian, its not russian. jamaica is a nation full of descendants of pre-columbian people's (Arawak's - Taino), saying something's 'spanish reggae' is like saying 'black country' or something of that equivalent. I'm sure it has an honest connatation to it, but i'm also sure that the ones who are taking reggae and calling it their own did not recognize its original past. Of course, thats the way of the world.

Spanish reggae comes from PUERTO RICO which is in the Carribean.Of course it's influenced by Jamaica and the other English speaking Islands. But they call it Spanish Reggae not Reggae so I honestly don't know what your titi attack is about. I asked if anyone liked Spanish Reggae. At no point did I claim that PUERTO RICO invented Reggae. I think you need to calm down a bit.
Hip-Hop originated in the South Bronx and people from all states listen to it and have their own styles. There's even German Hip-Hop and Korean Hip-Hop. Do you see anyone crying about it? No, I don't think so.
You say you like latin pop. No offense but that's being a hypocrite because pop didn't originate with the latin people. So are you from Jamaica? I just find it weird that you're a bit offended. My cousin's husband is Jamaican. IP: Logged |

Huh? I don't remember any Spanish artists claiming that they invented reggae.......just their own sub-genre of it (reggaeton). Besides, even if they did happen make the same reggae as their Engish-speaking counterparts...whats wrong with that? People around the world do hip hop with their own lyrics all the time. And didn't you know that reggae and reggaeton artists collaborate alot anyways? There's about 2 songs I think of off the top of my head right now, but I'm sure there's alot more.(Rupee feat. Daddy Yankee in "Tempted to Touch" is one) IP: Logged |

Mind if I throw in some Brazilian stuff too? I don't know the name of alot of the artists but this guy has got me hooked on his music. (Alexandre Pires is his name) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls-yiZhbXzM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ehnOdbhMuo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxRq12x0nLg
The third one isn't working well so I'll play this one. Its the same song, but only to a compilation of my sexiest football player alive (Cristiano Ronaldo).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJAUwyNgoj0 I know the songs are in Spanish (I really have no clue as to why he sang in Spanish) but they're my favorite ones from him....especially the third song.

no i'm not from jamaica, but my jamaican ancestry is quite prominent and patrilineal too, i think that was a "bit" of a misunderstanding, i don't think anyone can be a hypocrite for liking a particular style of music or mixed music, thats equivalent to saying someone of a mixed race, say filipino & canadian is a hypocrite, its definitely the same concept. truly I want to let you know I understand where your coming from and I take your comments and words with vigilence, Latin mixed with pop, rock, & r&b, i was going to ask if anyone knew any other artists (groups) who did that? (besides LisaLisa & cult jam), IP: Logged |

No, but you claimed that the Spanish artists are taking reggae and claiming it as their own. We are telling you that they're not. Have you ever listened to reggaeton? There's a distinct difference between that and the reggae of their English speaking counterparts. Yes, Jamaican reggae did influence reggaeton (otherwise it wouldn't be reggae) but the Spanish added their own influences as well....hence it being called "Spanish Reggae". Hope this clears things up.
*edit* Oh, and what I posted above is Latin Pop/R & B if thats what you were looking for. IP: Logged |

I went to a back yard fiesta last year and they were playing it.It was pretty funky! Loved it! It's a pretty sexy mix of Latin and Spanish music. I find Spanish rap, sexy too. It's the roll of the tongue in the language mixed with the soulful rhythm. IP: Logged |

Gosh, there was this one CD my Puerto Rican friend used to play all the time by these two artists called Hector y Tito....she got me hooked on it. I believe its called A La Reconquista, there's this one song off of there I've been trying to find on You-Tube but I guess there's no video to it (de nina a mujer is the name of it). But since we got into the subject of reggae, I like this song right here....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWR0PfG-LDM Well actually, I think they call it carnival music???
