Well, I've been thinking about what I want to do with the rest of my life. I came here because I don't know who to ask and I thought that there were a lot of adults here. lol
I'm kind of torn between three things. I've had my teachers in each subject tell me that I was talented enough that I should pursue a career in it, and I enjoy each one, so I'm a little confused. I either want to go into something involving music, writing, or art.
I've been considering becoming a college professor, and majoring in English or Art.
If there are any teachers here who can give me a little insight into what I might be doing, I'd greatly appreciate it. The other option was running a guitar store, teaching lessons and playing gigs on the side. If there any store owners around that would like to share their experiences with the whole store running deal, I would appreciate that too.
Thanks from a confused teenager!

Do whatever you can't live without doing.

But whatever you do, make sure you're happy doing it. Make sure you love it! And make sure you do it because it touches your soul, and it comes natural to you. It's your gift. Never do anything for the money, or prestige, or to please others.

Hope that helped

Take natural's advice, she hit it right on the nail, do what you can't live without doing, and also some advice from me:

follow your passions, do something your passionate about, passion is key.

Yeah, I know... I'm just sort of trying to figure out exactly what I love most, and what aspects of those jobs I would like, and which I would find annoying.

I have a passion for all three. I'll have to have an outlet for all of them no matter what. I'm just trying to find out what I want to do for a full time occupation.

Yesss... I'm a Virgo Sun, Leo Moon, Aquarius acendant. That's one reason I thought I might enjoy teaching at a college. I have a lot of Leo in the 7th house, and it's a very social job. I couldn't teach high school though.

BofE, then do it all!
That's how you find your path...

I started out studying to be a lawyer, then a braodcaster, then a sports broadcaster, okay, all that so I could hook a NBA basketball player without being groupie. Yeah, stupid, but I pursued it with such passion and though my intentions were weak, it was what I wanted. And then one day, I said, screw it all. My intentions changed. I returned to what I've always been gifted at, writing fiction. So, I studied it. No, STUDIED IT. Loved it. And then, I realized I wanted a post graduate degree. So, I went into English. Tried to get an MA in English 3 times, before I realized that I wasn't buying it. It was like, I had a gripe with the study of English at the collegiate level. I think the only class I liked was Shakespeare. But the Major Critics and then the study of literature, when the writer wasn't present to accurately defend his or work, got to me. I used to be the one asking in class, like, "how do you know that was his intention?" So, I realized English was not for me. So, I called one of my old professors and asked could I enter the Communcations Studies program. Well, all that came/comes naturally to me as well, but I really haven't the same passion for it as I did for writing. So while in that program I decided to take a scriptwriting class. Just to take my novel and put it into a workable outline format. Since I thought the novel was superior to the script. Boy was I wrong!
Writing screenplays is like mathematics meets literature. It's smart. It's cerberal. It's inventive. It's creative. It's the best thing my Virgo Sun, Gemini Moon and Cap rising, ever DISCOVERED! Screewriting, actually, completes me.

But you know, inorder to get to that place, you have to be led by all of your passions.
So basically, DO IT ALL!! You don't have to just do one. The path to life isn't a straight road. It's winding and it curves, and it's horizontal, then vertical, then horizontal again, and then vertical. And if you can learn to simply WALK it in that way, you can learn some beautiful things.

I know I have.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm going to have to wait a bit and try it all out. I'm just trying to get a head start and actually think about it some before I jump into all of that so I'm a little more prepared.

How is screenwriting going for you? Have you sold any scripts?

Okay...

Here's what you do....

write the choices on two pieces of paper
and throw them over your shoulder...

the one that lands closest to you,-
do that.

unless you feel a pang of disappointment
when you read which one it is, -
in which case,
do the other.

If you do it for a while and you dont like it,
quit;
do the other.

You are still a teenager.
You will probably change your mind
about half a dozen times before you are 24
and want to do something entirely unperceived.

You have time.
Try not to overthink or worry too much about it.

Screenwriting is going pretty good for me.
I like where I'm at. I have a lot to learn about the social side. I hate asking for things. I hate building relationships for the sake of "getting ahead". I have tons of contacts but I always focused on my skill level, making it optimal. And that I'm happy with. BUT, it's true, these guys in the industry, they're slick. Believe the casting couch because it's true. And the level of deciet, all to sleep with a woman is astonishing. I have a very disappointing story. Anyway, with all that said, nope, I haven't sold my work yet. I don't think I will any time soon. See, I'm not trying to break into, as what one woman called it, film, the sexy sister of TV. TV is richer. It has more opportunity and is always looking to hire talented new writers. So, I'm making my rounds, getting my portfolio together, which is why I killed my blog. Took too much of my time up. Staffing season is in May, and my portfolio is half done, and I have a few agents lined up to show my work to. So, now I'm in a race. BUT, one day, when I get enough money saved up, I want to shoot the first act of my screenplay (film). And say how it looks. Because I WILL write films one day. I love the freedom in that. It's most pure form of the two. It's where the writer has the loudest voice. I won't get into the long rant of why that is.

But all in all, I love it! It's going to be a great life, and I can't wait to sit with a team of people and knock out TV episodes week after week!

But, I have faith in you
My fellow, Virgoan
I bet you can't wait to see how it all turns out for you, but having fun turning it out! And learn, learn, learn along the way!
