Being alone

"I wish Pooh were here. It’s so much more friendly with two."

-- Piglet (A.A. Milne)

Are you willing to be alone?

Ingrid Bacci says, "If you are afraid of being alone, you are dependent on others for your sense of self, and if you are dependent on others, you block your receptivity to inner guidance. Being willing to be alone involves being willing to be different, to have commitments and values that don’t blend with any crowd."

"Man’s loneliness is but his fear of life."

-- Eugene O'Neill

"I celebrate myself, and sing myself."

-- Walt Whitman

I do my best thinking driving my car- alone.

today the topic du jour was "what if everyone is wrong? what if I never ever meet anyone?"

I am- the ONLY person I know who isn't in a relationship- seriously.

I have decided that I am ready for that eventuality. I know my family and friends are being kind when they say "you will meet someone." It's just as likely I will not. No one really knows.

And- I like my company. I am cool with it.

(most of the time )

The moment will arrive when you are comfortable with who you are, and what you are--bald or old or fat or poor, successful or struggling--when you don't feel the need to apologize for anything or to deny anything. To be comfortable in your own skin is the beginning of strength.
~ Charles Handy

One has to fear everything - or nothing.

I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.

~Tom Payne

Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world.
~Lucy Montgomery (1874-1942)

Last night as I lay sleeping I dreamt that there was a beehive here inside my heart and the golden bees were making white combs and sweet honey from all my failures.

Every evening, write down the six most important things that you must do the next day. Then while you sleep your subconscious will work on the best ways for you to accomplish them. Your next day will go much more smoothly.

Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.

The reason why most people face the future with apprehension instead of anticipation is because they don’t have it well designed.

Yes, yes, yes!!!

I, too, am my own best company and not only do I NEED time alone, I enjoy it~~~

Profoundly---could not live any other way...

The people who are in my life respect me for me and love me for me and if an "intimate" encounter would come my way it would have to be the same.

Why do you all suppose most do not understand this??? I have been questioned, critisized, pittied, etc. for being alone...

I think this is a society of co-dependents, that is what I think!!!

I've had the gift this year of " being " alone in so many ways and meanings of the word!!! It has been the best year of my life!!!

I have had the pleasure to really connect with mys-elf and who " I AM " and still " be " coming. Always " GROWING UP
" LOL!!!

I'm not the woman I used to be, now I'm so much more. Having this last year to reflect back and ask," Whats it all about really, anyways"????

I feel so blessed to have made it this far on my journey!!!! Even if it was all just about connecting to my own heart first!!!

What a preious gift of life that is!!!!

Taking Heart!!!! Found My Spirit alone!!!

Time to share her now!!!

Thanks!!!!

I read all this (love the quotes btw) and immediately thought of Bridget Jones - you know all those 'smug marrieds' people who constantly ask their single friends 'when are you going to settle down?'
Interesting phrase isn't it 'settle down' - so in order to be normal and accepted I have to 'settle' for something that is 'down' below me? maybe just spiralling here, maybe not making sense but I know what I mean

As I say to my mother, I want to be with someone because I 'want' to be with them not because I 'need' to be with them.

I am fine being with myself, I like myself and enjoy my own company, but sometimes it would be nice to have someone to share 'me' with...

(BTW just talking generally here not intending to offend any of those happily joined-at-the-hip couples - good luck to you! )

I Am... I Said Neil Diamond lyrics
Artist: Neil Diamond
Album: Stones
Year: 1971
Title: I Am... I Said Print
Correct

L.A.'s fine, the sun shines most the time
And the feeling is "lay back"
Palm trees grow and rents are low
But you know I keep thinkin' about
Making my way back

Well I'm New York City born and raised
But nowadays,
I'm lost between two shores
L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home
New York's home,
But it ain't mine no more

"I am"... I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair

"I am"... I cried "I am"... said I
And I am lost and I can't
Even say why
Leavin' me lonely still

Did you ever read about a frog
Who dreamed of bein' a king
And then became one
Well except for the names
And a few other changes
If you talk about me
The story's the same one

But I got an emptiness deep inside
And I've tried
But it won't let me go
And I'm not a man who likes to swear
But I never cared
For the sound of being alone

"I am"... I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
"I am"... I cried
"I am"... said I
And I am lost and I can't
Even say why
"I am"... I said
"I am"... I cried
"I am"... I said
