The Road Less Travelled by M. Scott Peck this is an awesome book on psychology. it explains what is needed in life to make it balanced and tells how major mental health issues in a person arise from childhood related problems. this book is a MUST READ if u want to be pyschological parents rather than just being biological ones. it explains what geniune love is and doesnot have a fairytale novel like approach to the subject. rather its a very matured one expected from a psychologist. anyone read this book please feel free to start a conversation on the same. Just wanted to share that I read the book a lond time ago and it had a big impact on me. I cannot cite a word from it now Isn't memory a wonderful gift? Checked the Amazon reviews on the book and found this one particularly interesting: See quote: A confused and confusing mix of religion and psychiatry, February 20, 2006

Oh I just love this Amazing book...!! Its starts with the line "Life is difficult...We can either moan about our problems or solve them" Peck defines discipline as the basic set of tools we require to solve life’s problems He describes four aspects of discipline as... 1. Delaying gratification: Sacrificing present comfort for future gains. 2. Acceptance of responsibility: Accepting responsibility for one's own decisions. 3. Dedication to truth: Honesty, both in word and deed. 4. Balancing: Handling conflicting requirements. he also talks about parenting...how to identify ur child's weaknesses.. it talks about almost all aspects of life...even about love.. he says love is not a feeling, it is an activity and an investment. Love is primarily a concern for the spiritual growth of another. Love cannot be sustained by mutual dependence, rather, love between two parties is made stronger when they are completely independent of one another I have read this book many times and each time I read it i feel as if i have missed some points earlier... Its a must read... AL IP: Logged |

i think leonine is right. i will read this book again too. the points in this book are so thought provoking that sometimes u go and reading but are lost on a previoulsy discussed thought. so it is important to read this book several times.the best thing in this book is it is not the usually self help book like 7 habits, or how to win friends and blah. it is a work of psychology that tells u to self ur own problems. it sets u thinking. I really like this: quote: he says love is not a feeling, it is an activity and an investment. Love is primarily a concern for the spiritual growth of another. Love cannot be sustained by mutual dependence, rather, love between two parties is made stronger when they are completely independent of one another
