On violence "In violence, we forget who we are." -- Mary McCarthy Andrew Schneider describes violence as an issue of power. People become violent when they feel powerless. Violence is used as an inappropriate way of attempting to re-establish one’s own sense of power over whatever or whomever is perceived as a threat. The antidote to violence in ourselves and in society is empowerment. We need to empower people to live out their best without fear. When people feel strong and able within themselves, they do not see themselves as potential victims. They do not have to struggle against others in order to feel secure. The curriculum for empowerment is learning and loving. "Never use violence of any kind. Never threaten violence in any way. Never even think violent thoughts. Never argue because it attacks another’s opinion. Never criticize because it attacks another’s ego. And your success is guaranteed." -- Mohandas Gandhi

"Never use violence of any kind. Never threaten violence in any way. Never even think violent thoughts." - I agree... "Never argue because it attacks another’s opinion." - I prefer to see it not as attacking someone's opinion but rather providing an alternate perception/opinion. Life would be most boring if everyone agrees all the time. "Never criticize because it attacks another’s ego." - If no one criticized me while I was growing up, I would not be pushed to making the best out of everything I have. There is something called constructive criticism. Something we should try practicing. "And your success is guaranteed." - If you never argue and never criticize, you would certainly succeed in the corporate world... as a flower vase or a parrot. Sorry, I don't have much respect for a brown-noser nor do I respect a "yes" person. MM

I am not a fan of violence... but... i think you need a little bit of poison to kill whereas you probably need a ton of sugar to get someone diabetic ... it's cheaper with poison.- just an observation... IP: Logged |

I think its only there & in place for us to learn that there is other ways & choices, until we learn this we feel the pain from this also. Time to wake-up and do something different!!! So we can reflect different!!!Voilence only reflects more voilence!!! What goes around, comes around!!! Just My Observation!!! Thanks Miss_Muffet!!!! IP: Logged |

Hi SS,"People become violent when they feel powerless. Violence is used as an inappropriate way of attempting to re-establish one’s own sense of power over whatever or whomever is perceived as a threat." This I agree with. We should avoid violence whenever we could but sometimes, circumstances compels us to defend ourselves against attacks. It doesn't mean we ourselves are violent. I don't think I will ever go after someone with vengeance, either with poison or with sugar. But neither will I sit around and let someone attack me without doing something about it... MM

I would stand up and die for what I believe in, but now I have learned to live for this same reason, some believe!!! I said I'm standing up and living for it, not just sitting down taking it!!! One can stand tall on their convictions!!! If I had to ever lash back, with the same lashing out and hurting another just to get my point across, no thanks, its not for me anyways. Each to their own vices!!!! IP: Logged |
