Is that weird? I just can't help it. They're so terribly cute.

I don't think it's weird.

I think that's one of the first things british people learn when they come here: that their nationality is attractive to people here.

The 'British' accent?

There isn't such a thing.

I'm with you BOE...if I could find one I'd be set! Accents are always sexy, and there is just something about Europeans in general...

The former conductor of the symphony here is Italian. My dad played in the symphony and was very close to the conductor. Whenever women meet this man, they literally break out in a sweat. He isn't even the best looking guy, but he's sooooooo charming!!

WHICH sort of British accent do you require though? Would it be a London one like Elisa Doolittle's father- 'get me to the church on time'....or a nice Geordie one like Happy Dragon kindly gave a link to.....how about a brummy- a Birmingham accent, lol- I love this accent! Then there's the good old Gloucestershire accent (sounds kinda 'farmerish') and the Bristol accent (ever heard of a comedy called 'Little Britain'?)

I quite like the Irish accent myself

I always liked the Pirate accents the best..

"Oh arrr, shiver me timberrrs..."

Or Dick Van Dyke's Cockney number in Mary Poppins which sounded more Australian.

Cor blimey!

Of course you're not asking for too much, NAM! They're just so hard to find some times.

HD~ Hmmm... well, I'd settle for any one of them, but I kind of like the Yorkshire accent best. That's a very neat link. I wonder if there's one for Americans, lol.

CrankyCap~ Oh yes, I learned a long time ago that looks are far from everything. I bet that guy had it made. lol

ListensToTrees~ I don't know what a Birmingham accent sounds like... Bristol is alright. Irish and Scottish are always sexy too.

Pirates ARR!!! I already have friends who think they're pirates and ninjas. I don't need anymore.

Oh, I had to post in here

Battle of Evermore, I totally "understand" you when you say you want a British boyfriend lol..

I'm one of the "victims" of their charm
I mean of one of them lol.
And he's just incredibly lovely

Happy Dragon, he's Geordie from Newcastle upon Tyne..
I looove when he says for fun "wey aye man" or "nee bother hinny"..

If this is a British fan thread, I'm in lol

Kisses xxx

i must admit Geordie is much liked here as well ..
a Leo friend is from up there ( i'm in yorkshire .. so its still 'up-there' .. :-)) .. )
.. he's such a sweet pussycat ..
"wey aye man" ..
.. that accent just adds to the charm ..
.. although m'mates "man" sounds more like "mun" or "mn" .. if that makes any sense ..

Mark Knopfler is from there as well ..
one song he sings " golden heart " ..
when i first heard it .. i thought he was singing 'golden ***** ' ..
was thinking at the time 'what Are you singing about' ..
it dawned about the second time i heard it .. that it was 'heart'
( i think the "t" gets lost .. and the 'ea' becomes an 'o' so it sounds like 'hor' )

one of my favs at the moment is the Churchill Insurance bulldog ( advertisement ) ..
it's an animated character with a yorkshire accent ..
i just love the way it sais .. " Oh .. .. .. no .. no .. no .. no .. no"
while closing its eyes 'n shaking its head ..

think my fav american accents are from their deep-south ..
again it's the gals who have the advantage with that one .. ;-))
( that's just my personal male opinion though )

Happy Dragon

You are near! Yorkshire!( I mean close to my boyfriend lol..I'm miles away..)
I must admit I've never been there, but me and my boyfriend planned to visit York last summer ( I wanted so much to "experience" that georgeous medieval cathedral).
For different reasons, we ended up in Lake District
Not bad either, what do you think?
Oh, it was lovely, lovely, lovely...

We will definitely visit York this year (he's been there, it's only me, an impatient Croatian girl that adores England and wants to travel all around that lovely country).
God, the nature is just fantastic; I've never ever seen anything so green, flowery and peaceful as English nature

As for Mark Knopfler, I understand you completely lol..
In the beginning I couldn't understand my boyfriend a word; I was thinking; God gracious I spent almost all my life learning English (proper one lol), and now I'll spend the rest of my life learning Geordie lol.
But yes, you are definitely right;they are adorable; I made some friends there (men and women), and they are all sweethearts

I haven't seen that Churchill Insurance bulldog advertisement (I have only BBC Prime on my TV here in Croatia), but I'm sure I'd love it ..I hope I'll see it when I go there (in England) for summer holidays..
Though I'm not that good at distinguishing British accents (except Geordie, for obvious reasons), they are all so, so charming (providing I manage to understand the words )

Kiss goodnight and love to all xxx

It would represent very much a problem for me since I can not understand most of what they say.Since English is not my first language and my ear is use to the American accent I get lost when I hear someone from there talk.
usually when I am watching something like a music documentary there are a lot of British influences, critics etc and i have to rewind many times, or watch the show several times to be able to get everything they are saying.It bites!

I'm sorry to hear that NAM
I understand you; some accents are really "strong", and if they talk fast, it's hard to understand the words.

Still, I think it's about what you got used to.
I've been learning English by British professors, and though it was "proper" English, there was always that British touch, so I understand them better than Americans.
And adding my slightly subjective lol "leaning" on British side, I'm voting for the "sound" of the lovely island

Goodnight (once again) and kisses xxx

~ NAM ~

don't let it put you off .. :-)

english is my first language ..
( i'm originaly from australia and have also lived in the u.s.a. .. )
and when i came here i also had a bit of trouble understanding them ..
the brits that is .. never mind the local accent ..
also the british sense of humor was hard to figure .. at first ..
i've now been here 22 years ..
people who don't know me .. still ask me if i'm american ..
they never seem to guess australia .. sometimes they think south africa ..
actually i think 'american english' is easier to understand .. for the most part ..
although one interaction with a southener from alabama left me wondering .. ;-))
as in .. i couldn't understand one word ..
but .. at least .. i got to find out what chittlin and grits were ..

american spelling makes more sense .. to me at least ..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ castlegirl ~
ask your boyfriend about the " Auf Wiedersehen Pet " television series
be sure to watch it sometime if you can .. it's hilariously funny !!
.. most of the main characters are geordies ..
it's about a bunch of builders who travel europe plying their trade ..
one of the last episodes was about some american indian chief who visits the u.k.
and wants a bridge built over a canyon back in the states ..
and the geordies decide to aquire a bridge structure from newcastle-on-tyne ..
and move it to the states .. ..
( or at least something along those lines :-) .. )
i'm sure you will enjoy your visit to York .. it's a beautiful place ..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
be well ..

Growing up, my summer camp imported a lot of foreign counselors. The English ones always made me swoon. I didn't care if they were Welsh, British or from Manchester, it was all just lovely. They were all either coy, flirty or shy and if I complimented them, they'd blush.

Whenever I hear a U.K. accent, I feel so soothed. It's a nice change from the NYC accents around here.

Yes, HD! Prince Harry! Why didn't I think of him! lol
Oh, 16 to 20 would do. I've never gone older than 20. Guitar playing is a major plus! Do you live in the U.K., HD?
Yes, you can put up some flyers! You can start your own dating service!

Yes pirates... the only thing about that would be making sure that you were the higher priority over their raping and pillaging. lol
