*/What is Effective Communication??/*

Jack and Max are walking from religious service. Jack wonders whether it
would be all right to smoke while praying.

Max replies, "Why don't you ask the Priest?"
So Jack goes up to the Priest and asks, "Priest, may I smoke while I
pray?" But the Priest says, "No, my son, you may not. That's utter
disrespect to our religion."

Jack goes back to his friend and tells him what the good Priest told him.
Max says, "I'm not surprised. You asked the wrong question. Let me try."
And so Max goes up to the Priest and asks, "Priest, may I pray while I
smoke?"
To which the Priest eagerly replies, "By all means, my son. By all means."

Moral: The reply you get depends on the question you ask.

For Example: *Can I work on this project while I'm on vacation?!?*

It is true Mirandee, just putting down words, or talking ain't communication. How often have we misunderstood people with wrong thoughts and intentions?

Good post too, very thought provoking.

It is true MoonChild. We do misunderstand eachother so often. It's so easy to take things the wrong way sometimes. Even if everyone speaks the same language they all speak it differently, and say different things to mean the same thing.

It's funny how someimtes people will say one thing, but mean the complete opposite!

Yeah, perception at what is being said plays into it a lot.

The written word is especially very easy to misunderstand. That seems to be the number one cause of disagreements on forums like this.

Glad you guys liked it.

NICE ONE MIRANDEE!!!

THANKS FOR SHARING THAT ONE!!!!

I learned this in counselling some years ago!!! When the mate that I was with at the time was asked to repeat what I had just said, He had no problem with repeating me!!!(Quoting ME!!!)Then he was asked next to say how he received or seen this information, he did so and much to my surpise, this is not what I had said at all or really meant!!! Then I was encouraged to say how I really meant it, in my case " How I feel it to be most times "!!!LOL!!

WOW what a SHOCK DISCOVERY that was, after 14yrs of thinking you knew one another!!!LOL!!!LOL!!!

So on that note, I have learned to just ask one what they meant by that comment or statement???, before I pass judgement or go off the handle!!! I always assume now that everyone has a take on it and probably sees and perceives it different then I!!!! Also its in how we digest it all!!!!

Sometimes I just have a strong feeling to just SPIT that Sh!t OUT, for it can leave a REALLY BAD TASTE IN ONES MOUTH!!!LOL!!!

REALLY!!!!

Where is BR when we need him? LOL Thinking of his rendering of the Blue Fairy when you said that, Star. hee hee

What you said is very profound and oh, so true, Star. My husband is constantly taking what I said the wrong way. Drives me nuts. But I also take what he says at times the wrong way too.

We all need to remember and start doing what you said, ask people what they meant before assuming and flying off the handle. I don't like it when people do that to me but I know that I also do that to other people without asking them first what they are trying to say. Clarify.

Excellent point, Star. And here's your star.

I try to practice calmness and tolerance, instead of being reactionary, when people do not magically understand what I meant but didn't exactly say
