I am just confused a little.

I already submitted an application. fine.

She called for an interview. fine, been there done that.

But

shed asked me to bring a resume and cover letter. which would be fine normally. I have a ready made resume because some jobs don't have ready made applications when you stop in looking for a job.

but what I have on my resume is basically what you would find on an application and states what I already put on this specific application.

I mean, what could I add to this resume that has not already been asked and stated on the application? It was a decently in depth app to begin with for the job in question.

Do I just go into even more detail about each job, with lots of comments on how it made me a good worker? Explain my specality in the field (child care) more?

and the cover letter, which I have not done in my 22 years of life, I am guessing is a statement of my objectives and motivation?

Sorry to sound naive. I have had 6 jobs, but I swear, I have had it easy till now, basically being hired on the spot or with minimum effort. But I have never had to do both an application and resume for the same position.

Thanks for any advice.

actually Carl, a resume and a cover letter is a very integral part of the hiring process since it gives the head honcho a chance to see your written communicative skills .

Think of the resume as a showcase of your Job skills and experience and a cover letter as a showcase of you . So here is your chance to show yourself off to them though I am surprised they asked for an interview first and a coverletter and a resume second... Wierd.

Okay, so for the cover letter, I will tie in relevant life with the job I am trying to get. How my life experiences would make me a good candidate for the job in other words.

The resume should elaborate on key parts of the application in this instance?

About the over letter:

Right on the nose Carl. A cover letter is your way of expressing your importance to the corporation. Basically you need to highlight as what key skills you can bring to the corporation and how you can help in improving the corporation. Furthermore, do put down viable ideas on how you can help improve their output as such (do a little reasearch on the corporation itself .)

As for your resume:

Elaborate on your key skills, your educational background and your pasr work experience. Do keep it brief and to the point though.

Good luck with it all bud.

Do a Google search for "writing a good resume"

I saw about three fantastic links immediately and of course, there are about 4 million other links too.

A cover letter is your "introduction" so don't forget to say why you want to work at the company. Like Xodian said, do some research on the company so you can include a few facts in your letter. Companies love it when you know something about them and it shows initiative!

I was in charge of hiring for the past five years at my previous company, and I'm currently a writer/editor. My e-mail is in my profile, and if it would help you I would be happy to look over your resume and cover letter and offer suggestions.

Not everyone looks at the same paperwork,
if you feel like you're repeating yourself
that's understandable

three points to cover on your letter
(1) takes direction well
(2) works well with others, a team player
(3) motivated

Best of luck carl.
