Preferably the videos of him singing the songs.

I am in a Rod Stewart mood lately. Always loved his music. I think he sings a ballad better than anyone can.

I have so many favorite songs of his. This is one of his songs in recent years that has become a favorite of mine. I tear up every time I watch this video because it reminds me so much of my husband and Brody together. They are inseparable buddies:

I'm partial to "old school" Rod Stewart
(sorry no video)

Rod Stewart
Every Picture Tells a Story

Spent some time feelin' inferior
standing in front of my mirror
Combed my hair in a thousand ways
but I came out looking just the same

Daddy said, "Son, you better see the world
I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave
But remember one thing don't lose your head
to a woman that'll spend your bread"
So I got out

Paris was a place you could hide away
if you felt you didn't fit in
French police wouldn't give me no peace
They claimed I was a nasty person
Down along the Left Bank minding my own
Was knocked down by a human stampede
Got arrested for inciting a peacful riot
when all I wanted was a cup of tea
I was accused
I moved on

Down in Rome I wasn't getting enough
of the things that keeps a young man alive
My body stunk but I kept my funk
at a time when I was right out of luck
Getting desperate indeed I was
Looking like a tourist attraction
Oh my dear I better get out of here
'for the Vatican don't give no sanction
I wasn't ready for that, no no

I moved right out east yeah!
On the Peking ferry I was feeling merry
sailing on my way back here
I fell in love with a slit eyed lady
by the light of an eastern moon
Shangai Lil never used the pill
She claimed that it just ain't natural
She took me up on deck and bit my neck
Oh people I was glad I found her
Oh yeah I was glad I found her

I firmly believe that I didn't need anyone but me
I sincerely thought I was so complete
Look how wrong you can be

The women I've known I wouldn't let tie my shoe
They wouldn't give you the time of day
But the slit eyed lady knocked me off my feet
God I was glad I found her
And if they had the words I could tell to you
to help you on the way down the road
I couldn't quote you no Dickens, Shelley or Keats
'cause it's all been said before
Make the best out of the bad just laugh it off
You didn't have to come here anyway
So remember, every picture tells a story don't it

ok .. cat stevens wrote it ..
but .. i always prefered Rod Stewarts version ..

** The first cut is the deepest **

I would have given you all of my heart
But theres someone who's torn it apart
And she's taken just all that I had
But if you want Ill try to love again
Baby Ill try to love again but I know

The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know the first cut is the deepest
But when it come to being lucky she's cursed
When it come to loving me she's the worst
I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that Ive cried
And Im sure going to give you a try
And if you want Ill try to love again
Baby Ill try to love again but I know

The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know the first cut is the deepest
But when it come to being lucky shes cursed
When it come to loving me she's the worst

I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that Ive cried
But Im sure gonna give you a try
cause if you want Ill try to love again
Baby Ill try to love again but I know

The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know the first cut is the deepest
When it come to being lucky she's cursed
When it come to loving me she's the worst

He's my all time favourite. Love his bedroom voice - very much like Brian Adams'. I can't pick among all his songs coz I just love them all.

He's much older now but I used to just love looking at him. Love his hair and his sense of style.... so rebellious!

Miss Muffet

PS
Does anyone have his full chart? I know he's a cappy but don't know any other info about him.

I how I don't care for him, especially that If You Think I'm Sexy song. Blech!

Still, it's better than talk of the band Tool or their lead singer.

Also, I do actually like Rod's song with the line, "Wake up Maggie I think I've got something to say to you." That one's pretty cool.

I LUV Rod Stewart! Seriously underrated! "Maggie Mae" is my favorite, but I love this one too:

"I Don't Want To Talk About It"

I can tell by your eyes that you've prob'bly been cryin' forever,
and the stars in the sky don't mean nothin' to you, they're a mirror.
I don't want to talk about it, how you broke my heart.
If I stay here just a little bit longer,
If I stay here, won't you listen to my heart, whoa, my heart?

If I stand all alone, will the shadow hide the color of my heart;
blue for the tears, black for the night's fears.
The star in the sky don't mean nothin' to you, they're a mirror.
I don't want to talk about it, how you broke my heart.
If I stay here just a little bit longer,
if I stay here, won't you listen to my heart, whoa, my heart?
I don't want to talk about it, how you broke this ol' heart.

If I stay here just a little bit longer,
if I stay here, won't you listen to my my heart, whoa, my heart?
My heart, whoa, my heart.

Really love this one too...

"You're in my heart"

I didn't know what day it was, when you walked into the room.
I said 'hello' unnoticed; you said goodbye too soon.
Breezin' through the clientele, spinning yarns that were so lyrical.
I really must confess right here, the attraction was purely physical.

I took all those habits of yours,
That in the beginning were hard to accept.
Your fashion sense for Beardsley prints, I put down to experience.

The big bosomed lady with a Dutch accent
Who tried to change my point of view.
Her ad lib lines were well rehearsed, but my heart cried out for you.

You're in my heart, you're in my soul.
You'll be my breath should I grow old.
You are my lover, you're my best friend, you're in my soul.

My love for you is immeasurable; my respect for you: immense.
You're ageless, timeless, lace and fineness,
You're beauty and elegance.

You're a rhapsody, a comedy, you're a symphony and a play.
You're every love song ever written,
But honey what do you see in me?

You're in my heart, you're in my soul.
You'll be my breath should I grow old.
You are my lover, you're my best friend, you're in my soul.

You're an essay in glamour. please pardon the grammar
But you're every schoolboy's dream.
You're Celtic united, but baby I've decided
You're the best team I've ever seen.

And there have been many affairs, many times I thought to leave.
But I bite my lip and turn around,
Cause you're the warmest thing I ever found.

You're in my heart, you're in my soul.
You'll be my breath should I grow old.
You are my lover, you're my best friend, you're in my soul.

My two very favorite Rod Stewart songs are Mandolin Wind and I Don't Wanna Talk About It. In that order.

AG,

I like the Maggie May song, too.

And Tool is a really good band. No kidding.
On technical proficience alone, they are accomplished musicians.
You can't really debate that, and the rest is a matter of taste.
But I know some highly intelligent and passionate people who really like that band.
Maybe you should take a second listen? Try the song "Reflections".

Another classic Rod Stewart that I love.

Zala, Same musicians in this video as in the Mandolin Wind video. Only the guitarist that I pointed out behind Stewart is playing the violin ( fiddle?) in this video. Seriously, I think I am developing crushes on this guy. LOL What a babe!!!

HSC,

I know that they're technically proficient. I just don't like it. I never have. That band, more than any other popular band, brings back my musical snobbery. They're right up there with popular Country music in my book. I wouldn't listen to either by choice, though both are "technically" proficient. I don't relate to either style [with a disclaimer for Western/Old West-reminiscent type music]. Tool just lacks beauty for me, and the power that they portray isn't the kind of power that gets me going in music (A Perfect Circle is better).

LOL Lalalinda the hair bit at the beginning of the video was so funny.

Rod Stewart cleans up very well hee hee

The tux with tails in this video reminds me of the exchange between Rod Stewart and Elton John years ago.

In an interview Rod Stewart made the comment that Elton John looked more like a banker than a rock star.

When asked what he thought of that comment Elton John replied, " I may look like a banker but Rod sings like one." hee hee

Mirandee ~

I may be able to help you nourish your new crush
Process of Deduction/Elimination -- it has to be this guy

Bio:
Born In London England, Don Teschner grew up near the foot of the Appalachian mountains in Eastern Pennsylvania. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue his music. After working with Rod Stewart for almost five years Don is just now releasing his first CD. SwampRockBlues is a collection of Slide Guitar based music. Organic, Acoustic, and Passionate, These steamy songs resonate with the beautiful yet haunting sounds of the deep south influenced by the tradition of the Delta Blues

I think this might be the album that those vids are from (or vice-versa)??

THAT'S HIM!!!! Good work, Zala!!!!!

Now we have a name to that gorgeous face. And those long legs, and that...oops getting carried away here.

I'll race you to the record store to get that Swamp Rock Blues, Star hee hee

It's too weird, Zala but as I watched him in those videos I just sensed he was country. By way of the pond that is.

We have to get a bio on him and find out what his birth info is. Bet he's a cancer. Also would like to know if I am old enough to be his mother or his grandmother.

Back to Rod Stewart

Do you guys remember this one? Sad song but I like it a lot. Rod Stewart wrote it and I think he wrote it for a real life friend.

Music and lyrics:

The Killing of Georgie
http://play.rhapsody.com/rodstewart/downtowntrain/thekillingofgeorgiepartsiandii?didAutoplayBounce=true

(Rod Stewart)

In these days of changing ways
so called liberated days
a story comes to mind of a friend of mine

Georgie boy was gay I guess
nothin' more or nothin' less
the kindest guy I ever knew

His mother's tears fell in vain
the afternoon George tried to explain
that he needed love like all the rest

Pa said there must be a mistake
how can my son not be straight
after all I've said and done for him

Leavin' home on a Greyhound bus
cast out by the ones he loves
A victim of these gay days it seems

Georgie went to New York town
where he quickly settled down
and soon became the toast of the great white way

Accepted by Manhattan's elite
in all the places that were chic
No party was complete without George

Along the boulevards he'd cruise
and all the old queens blew a fuse
Everybody loved Georgie boy

The last time I saw George alive
was in the summer of seventy-five
he said he was in love I said I'm pleased

George attended the opening night
of another Broadway hype
but split before the final curtain fell

Deciding to take a short cut home
arm in arm they meant no wrong
A gentle breeze blew down Fifth Avenue

Out of a darkened side street came
a New Jersey gang with just one aim
to roll some innocent passer-by
There ensued a fearful fight
screams rang out in the night
Georgie's head hit a sidewalk cornerstone

A leather kid, a switchblade knife
He did not intend to take his life
He just pushed his luck a little too far that night

The sight of blood dispersed the gang
A crowd gathered, the police came
An ambulance screamed to a halt on Fifty-third and Third

Georgie's life ended there
but I ask who really cares
George once said to me and I quote

He said "Never wait or hesitate
Get in kid, before it's too late
You may never get another chance
'Cos youth a mask but it don't last
live it long and live it fast"
Georgie was a friend of mine

Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie, Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay
