this is a very interesting version of the song.
Rufus Wainwright is very talented!
cool find.
i believe it was written by Leonard Cohen.

shrek keeps bouncing through my head. -John Cales version

Jeff Buckleys version is good also.

*edited to add;
for those who are interested:
It's a medley of biblical stories.
David is the king composer who saw Bathsheba taking a bath from his roof and had to have her, so he had her husband killed.
Delilah tied Samson, cut his hair which robbed him of his strength and delivered him to his enemies.
And of course hallelujah which means Praise the Lord
------------------
yes, im new -please be kind.

Oh yesssss.... this is a BEAUTIFUL song. It was on the Shrek soundtrack which I used to have. That and "You Belong to Me" were my favorite tracks on it.

Great song Although I like it better with Jeff Buckley. Didn't at the beginning though, at first I liked this the better.

Anyways... They're both to die for

Very touching song, Yin. Thank you for sharing it because I had not heard it before.

Brings tears here too.

In it's beautiful simplicity it speaks of an unfortunate reality.

Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah Lyrics

I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift, the baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelu----jah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof, you saw her bathing on the roof, her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair, she broke your throne, she cut your hair, and from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelu----jah

Maybe I have been here before, I know this room; I have walked this floor, I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch, love is not a victory march, it's a cold and its a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelu----jah

There was a time you let me know whats really going on below, but now you never show it to me, do you? (and)
Remember when I moved in you; the holy dark was moving too, and every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelu----jah

Maybe there's a God above, and all I ever learned from love was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
And its not a cry you can hear at night, its not somebody who's seen the light, its a cold and its a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelu--jah

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelu---u---jah

Me and my friends chose this song to perform to our musicteacher a year ago So I can play it on piano We also had to analyze it though... A bit hard actually, since there even are different versions of the lyrics.

Wow RainbowDay, I envy you. (For being able to play the piano and this song too!)
I wish I could play it.
I can't stop listening to it now.
