I am definately living in the wrong place. We moved here 3 years ago. We can't afford to move again just yet.
Living up here in northern Maine is not like the rest of Maine. It is the northern bible belt. There are some backwoods nutjobs here who don't know the difference between astrology and devil worship.
If you are different in any way they talk behind your back. Like for instance. if you have all your teeth,shower,wear makeup. and don't cover up in a potato sack. So many people have moved here and out since we have been here i can't wait for the time we can go also. The minute we sell our house were out of here. I can't wait to get paroled. this place SUCKS.... Dee

LoL!, I've got news for you these guys live everywhere! Even in the largest cities of California. A friend of mine was actually asked to no longer attend his church when they discovered he understood about Sunsigns! This was a well known Christian church. He has been going rounds with them for nearly two months now.
It's crazy out there!
I hope that for your sanity you will find a more suitable area to move to.

Thanks! I know lots of people go through this. but sometimes it really gets to me and i can't stand one more minute. It's amazing isn't some places having to walk on eggshells.I was telling my husband imagine if these people found themselves in a town where there was no churches. Just new age bookstores. Astrology seminars and psychic fairs.I was cornered by one of these women here the other day while out shopping. She was going on testifying,raising her hand and praising Jesus. After awhile she saw the look on my face and said you think we are all retards up here. I didn't know what to say because she read my mind. Dee

What amuses me is that it's all really superstition.

There's no real evidence to show that either Christianity or astrology have any basis in real events or fact. It's all faith baby.

The bottom line is that people are superstitious and emotional animals. We're full of fear and intolerance, and religion sometimes makes it worse.

In California actually, I don't have much of a problem when I talk about Astrology, maybe it's just that people are less likely to publicly act like you're weird than in some places...but when I go back to Omaha to visit family, sometimes they look at me like I'm the nutjob. I'm the "poor" relative that lives out "in California w/ the wackjobs". LOL

It's true what others here have said, there are narrow minded, control freaks everywhere.

If it's a small town though that you live in that would make encountering those types of people more frequent than in a larger city, so I feel for you.

I am a Bay Area native and have been living here in Portland for five years now. Where I'm from, talking about Astrology or metaphysical subjects aren't frowned upon and there are a lot of people who follow the same open-mined school of thought. Here, there's open-mindedness but not quite as much. I've encountered some fear and doubt toward these subjects...and some really rigid beliefs. Fire and brimstone type of beliefs.

Religion can be used as a way of controlling the masses.
