The abandoned monkey who has found love with a pigeon

They're an odd couple in every sense but a monkey and a pigeon have become inseparable at an animal sanctuary in China.

The 12-week-old macaque - who was abandoned by his mother - was close to death when it was rescued on Neilingding Island, in Goangdong Province.

After being taken to an animal hospital his health began to improve but he seemed spiritless - until he developed a friendship with a white pigeon.

The macaque nestles his head against his feathered friend

The blossoming relationship helped to revive the macaque who has developed a new lease of life, say staff at the sanctuary.

Now the unlikely duo are never far from each other's side, but they aren't the only ones to strike up an unusual friendship.

Earlier this year a pig adopted a tiger cub and raised him along with her piglets because his mother couldn't feed him.

And in 2005 a baby deer named Mi-Lu befriended lurcher Geoffrey at the Knowsley Animal Park in Merseyside after she was rejected by her mother.

This is such a great story. I hope it shows people that animals do have feelings and that they should be taken care of, loved, and respected and not taken advantage of or abused as so often happens. We (homosapiens) should be caretakers of this planet and all its beautiful creatures.

- Co, Miami, FL

We humans could learn a little something from this unlikely twosome: Tolerance, unconditional love, and respect for someone or something that very different than us.

aqua inferno, it's true, someone sent me the whole story with pictures.

The picture of the monkey is adorable. Just looking into his vulnerable eyes makes me want to sit here and cry my eyes out!

I feel a bit like an abandoned monkey right now. Perhaps I can make friends with a pigeon?

LOL YFIS I empathize.

That happened to me once at a Detroit Tiger baseball in the upper deck of old Tiger stadium. It was quite disgusting.

When I sat back down after cleaning up in the bathroom some woman behind me said that is good luck. I told her after having your head crapped on by a pigeon almost anything afterwards would seem like good luck.

That happened to me when I was at school, about 10 years old and my teacher said the same thing!

I volunteered at a wildlife hospital once, it was wonderful. If I could afford to run a car I would definitely still be involved in things like that.
