TODAY ALL CELL PHONE NUMBERS ARE GOING ON THE TELEMARKETERS CALL LISTS....YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS!!!!!!!!!!

TO PREVENT THIS, CALL FROM THE NUMBER YOU WISH TO HAVE NATIONALLY BLOCKED.

888-382-1222

This is effective for FIVE (5) years.

Be sure to pass this info on.

You can also go here to sign up:

https://www.donotcall.gov/

If you receive calls from telemarketers after the 31-day window post-signup, then you can get the company name and file a complaint at the above website.

If you have a PDA or organizer or desktop calendar on your pc, mark the day 5 years from now to re-register for another 5 years.

Fortunately its easy to screen on cell phones. If you don't recognize a number and its actually important they'll leave a message.

This might be a stupid question, but I am from South Africa. Not that South Africans ask stupid questions, but... I have no idea what's going on in the US at times.

To my understanding, is the post above saying that all your cellphone numbers have been sold as data to call-centers so that they can call 'you' to market their products, and then CHARGE YOU for the call?

I'm not sure if this holds true for all, but on my plan I get a certain number of Incoming Call minutes free (where someone has dialed my number and we've yakked). After that number of "free" minutes is used up, there's a per-minute charge.
So it is possible that it can cost you if you answer the parasitic phone-spammers.....

Myth Dispelled: There is no Cell Phone Directory
Telemarketers aren't going to call your unlisted cell phone
12:03PM Sunday Sep 30 2007

Just in case you were wondering, the FCC has released a consumer advisory announcement to let you know that telemarketers will not be able to receive your wireless phone number via a directory. This rumor has been circulating for four years, ever since talks began about creating a directory for cell phone numbers (similar to the phone book for landlines). Such a directory has been opposed by cell phone carriers, politicians, and consumers so it’s no wonder that the project has stalled indefinitely. But the FCC says that even if it eventually goes forward, it’s going to be based on voluntary involvement by consumers and so the telemarketer list fear is unfounded. Source

So.... In short, Here's the real deal: While aquaspryt69 has supplied a very useful and accurate official National Block request phone number and Zala the useful government website for such needs. These are yet to be needed outside of landline usage.
