    Dear Friend and Reader:

THESE NIGHTS of mid-Scorpio are when the veil between the worlds is the thinnest. They are the Days of the Dead: All Saints' Day, All Souls' Day, Dia de los Muertos, and Dia de los Angelitos; with special days designated to honor the unbaptized, small children, those who died violently, and of course, our ancestors.

When our world is closest to the astral world, these souls can come visit; and we can visit them, honoring our predecessors in our hearts, and also with a simple ritual such as bringing gifts to a cemetery. In American culture, we call the whole business Halloween. That is an adaptation of Samhain, the high sabbat of the witch's calendar. This is related to Beltane in May -- the holiday of abundance, sex and passion.

In the city I reside, in south Texas the culture is rich with dia de los muertos...

I pass by a cemetary in an ethnic part of town on my way to the ghetto hospital in which I work and the graves are SO, SO decorated!

It is quite beautiful and amazing!

Samhain, tho, is not only a Wiccan sabbat, but a very ancient pagan observation.

My Hallow's eve was not entertaining trick or treaters, but reflection upon my spiritual new year, inviting and being open to past ancestors and animals visiting me and mine....a time of seeding new.

What rests in the dark will soon come to light.

Wed [Oct 31] would have been the Birthday of a person I knew that committed suicide last year. He ended life on 6/13/06. I have visited him 5 or 6 times. Wed. I decided to send him from home. When I read this article I changed my mind. Yesterday I took him an apple, and placed it on his grave. Others had been there [to his grave] as well. I was delighted to see other gifts. Gone, [in the physical sense] but most definitely not forgotten.

It amazes me how many people leave earth around 10/31.

I am a rn and work in an icu and we had SO, SO many deaths in the week before 10/31...

It is like they can see the light more clearer and their ancestors can come to greet them easier.

The tarot is especially accurate around this time of year as well.

And it is not like only on these days is the veil thin, it thins toward 10/31, is at it's thinnest then goes back to the norm as 10/31 wanes.

Such an awesome time of year!!!
