No, this isn't another *psycho-* questionnaire. "Neurotic Neat Freak or Messy Maverick? Find out with our fun quiz!!" Seriously, are you scarily neat or unable to function without chaos? I HAVE to have chaos around me in order to function. I do tidy things up occasionally, but I don't know what else people do that go round tidying things up all the time. Okay, I am a student again - I am *allowed* some respite from cleaning. Perhaps it suits my love of (slight) procrastination and deliberation, to have to hunt for what I want. I mean, I know exactly where everything is("in there somewhere"), and I always lose things when I tidy up. To me, spaces are places to DO THINGS in (i.e. places to lay out WORK IN PROGRESS). They are not places to show off: "ooh, let's see how much square footage of clean carpet we can have on view - shall we compete for Ideal Home Prize 2008?" Etc, etc. My mum used to have a carpet rake...lends another dimension to carpet surfing IP: Logged |

Here's my house: NOT!!!!! With two cats, an active boy, and too much stuff, we're at the Messy Maverick end of the spectrum I have an older house and there are only two small closets in the entire house!! Just don't have enough storage for all that Essential "Stuff"..... Do you need a crescent wrench? spare cupboard-knob? pocket calculator? hand-crank meat-grinder? thingie-hook for pulling hair-clogs out of the sink drain? 12 blank birthday cards suitable for immediate mailing? backscratcher? spare keyring? harmonica? deck of playing-cards? I can lay my hands on any of those in 8 seconds But find a favorite book?? Tough. I have bookshelves that are full to the brim, with books stacked on-top-of and piled next-to..... What prompted your query?? IP: Logged |

I can not live without order. I must have everything in its proper place or I am not able to function. I can not sleep if I even have a sock on the floor. Some people may call me a freak, but I am able to live my life around it and still enjoy my life. IP: Logged |

All depends on the context. I can be over-the-top picky about people disrupting my space with their mess, but if the mess is of my own creation I can generally handle it.IP: Logged |

Hey Zala, it looks like messiness is Pisces-Moon syndrome. Like you - I have a ton of useful things, all within a 360-degree-whirl of my very small room. I have absolutely everything (bar a TV or beatbox), and if I don't have something already, then I will probably get it - and hoard it. I'm just so curious as to why some people continually go round tidying up - and the fact that excessive tidiness also seems to be associated with other personality characteristics. Certain people I know (or knew) that are obsessively tidy have a T-square in fixed signs, and they need objects to be returned to particular positions, or at least be visible... d'you know what I mean?
