Which Goddess Are You? Test

These are all Greek Goddesses I think.

http://quiz.ivillage.com/love/tests/goddessfinal.htm

Weird but every time I take one of these Goddess tests it always comes up Persephone. So I guess that is definitely my most prominent Goddess type.

You scored 33.3%
Persephone
If you exemplify the qualities of Persephone, you have most likely experienced great loss in your life -- the loss of your health or your emotional or physical security, the betrayal of a friend or lover, the loss of a child, your own divorce or that of your parents. This experience has forced you to face the dark, unenlightened side of yourself (the side that blames other people or circumstances for your own suffering) and transform yourself into a stronger, more independent, more accepting and more loving person. It may have also led you down a spiritual path, and moved you to place great emphasis on inner calm and on close connections with friends. You are capable of embracing, integrating and accepting difficult experiences. Because of that skill, you offer others the gift of empathy -- you know where people are or have been.

You scored 25%
Artemis
If you are ruled by Artemis, your independent spirit belongs to no one but yourself. Your body is vibrant, your attitude robust and your manner vigorous and alive. You are driven by physical rather than mental energy. You feel complete without a man in your life and would never compromise your essential nature for a romantic partner. You are skilled at establishing personal boundaries and enter into relationships on your own terms -- in short, you can take care of yourself. This attitude may at times put men off. But if what you're looking for is an equal, loving relationship, take some tips from Hera and check out our Become a Love Goddess in 30 Days workshop.

You scored 16.7%
Hestia
If you embody the qualities of Hestia, you understand the value of having your own sacred place, whether it's an actual room or simply a time of day when you free your mind of busy thoughts and experience peace. While home is your sanctuary, you are at home with yourself wherever you are and no matter who you are with. You know that the meaning of your life springs from your spiritual center. This brings you a great sense of security. You do not crave attention or material possessions; you nurture your friends and family with your unconditional love.

You scored 16.7%
Hera
If you possess many of Hera's qualities, you tend to find fulfillment in relationships and look on marriage as a permanent union. In marriage, you feel no sense of frustration or resentment, because you are an equal partner with your spouse. You are confident and have no trouble asserting your authority in and out of the relationship. You seek men who are self-confident and successful, because you are comfortable with the concept that you can be fulfilled through him (and him through you). As long as your partner honors the marriage as much as you do and appreciates you, you will be happy. If he doesn't, you must concentrate on your own growth and discover an identity independent of him.

You scored 8.3%
Athena
If you are ruled by Athena, you are bright-eyed, shrewd, resourceful and inventive. With friends, you are the wise counselor -- always ready with an empowering message. You believe strongly that women can accomplish anything men can. No wonder you put so much time into your career. Athena women tend to be ruled by their heads, not by their hearts. You carefully guard your intimate side, protecting your emotions and vulnerability. If you want to awaken your unexpressed womanliness, you'll have to use the same passion you apply to your intellectual achievements. It's important that you work to integrate your strong masculine side with your feminine side -- bringing together your strength with your vulnerability, your creativity with caring, your intelligence with imagination. Otherwise, you risk coming off as unaffectionate and self-righteous. Take lessons from the goddesses Hestia and Aphrodite to do this.

You scored 0%
Demeter
If you fit the Demeter archetype, you are a nurturer and caretaker. You have a generous heart and enjoy extending your love to others. You are motivated by the most powerful of instincts -- to give life -- and selflessly devote yourself to the life you create. You feel compelled to care for all those around you, even if they are not your own children. In short, you feel the need to be all things to all people, and therefore, your own needs sometimes go unmet. You must learn to say no, and apply Artemis's sense of boundaries and Aphrodite's ability to put herself first. That way, you can give to others from an overflowing rather than a half-full cup. To learn how to incorporate the qualities of these goddesses into your life, follow our Become a Love Goddess in 30 Days workshop.

You scored 0%
Aphrodite
If you are ruled mostly by Aphrodite, your femininity and passionate spirit are the controlling forces in your life. You tend to be charismatic and self-assured, comfortable with your body and unrestrained sexually. Men are drawn to you like bees to flowers, which satisfies your erotic nature. However, you tend not to form permanent attachments with lovers because you value your sexual freedom, which may leave you feeling lonely and even depleted once a relationship ends. To find and form a more lasting relationship, you need to add more of the goddess Hera to your life.

That so doesn't surprise me Mom that we get the same GODDESS!!! NICE!!!

***Persephone: Queen of the Dead***

The Rape of Persephone | Persephone as Kore (innocent little girl-type) | Persephone and the Dead (the chthonic Persephone) | The Eleusinian Mysteries

The Rape of Persephone

The story begins with beautiful Persephone picking flowers. We should actually call her Kore here, but, to keep from getting confusing, I don't think I will. Anyway, despite what appears to be in the Waldherr painting on the right, Persephone was not alone, she was surrounded by other maidens who were likewise picking flowers. The maidens were the Oceanids, and (according to the Homeric Hymn to Demeter) Athena and Artemis, too. But despite her beautiful and sweet and all those other saccharine-sounding companions, she managed to wander off away from them. I mean, after all, there's only so much time you can spend with a bunch of seriously sugar-y girls. So off she goes. It didn't SEEM like anything was wrong. The sun was shining bright and the flowers were blooming perfectly. But clearly we aren't looking in the right place for a portent. I'll clue you in: it was among the flowers. Yeah, there were violets and roses and crocuses and lots of other things that never actually bloom at the same time, but there were also narcissus. And as you may remember from other myths (or, more likely, you don't), the narcissus is not a happy flower. Nope nope nope. Just so's you know, some people say that the narcissus was the portent of deathly type stuff because of its narcotic capabilities - but there's other reasons, too. So there she is, and as she leans over to pick the narcissus, the earth opens and Hades, the Lord of the Underworld jumps out. Okay. Let's take a moment out and understand WHY King Dead is coming up like so many daisies. See, it all started because Persephone was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. Now, Persephone had loyalty to her mom, first and foremost, but Zeus wasn't exactly peachy about that whole deal, and without running it by either Persephone or Demeter, he decided to tell his brother (that's Hades, folks) that he could marry our dainty little heroine (oh don't worry, she's not ALWAYS dainty). Anyway. So there's Hades thinking, "Ah, yes, a lovely opportunity to take my wife to her new kingdom," and there's Persephone thinking, "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

So she gets taken down to the Underworld and Hades shows her the sights and stuff - but Persephone isn't too thrilled. Meanwhile, up above ground, Demeter is going nuts. There's a very cool story about it, but I refuse to write it three times, so until it gets to the Myth Pages, you'll have to check it out on Demeter's page. So back to the Underworld. It's really sucking to be her at this point, I mean, let's review who she is. She's called "Kore," and is, essentially the personification of girlhood ("kore" means "girl"). She's all happy and flower-y and she's the daughter of a freakin' NATURE FERTILITY Goddess! So how much of a suck would it be to win the position of Queen of the Dead - the total antithesis of everything she represented as a girl. No longer would she rejoice in flower chains (damn that narcissus), nope, now she gets to wear metal on her head and sit in a shadow world (that is, without Sun) and her only sweet and beautiful companions are dead. Poor kid. Was it any surprise that she wasn't too keen on the idea at first? All she wanted to do was go home. She moped around and didn't eat and didn't sleep and didn't do much of anything. Did I say didn't eat? Well . . . not much anyway. See, there was this one little foible: this annoying little punk named Ascalaphus (see, even his NAME is annoying) got her to eat a seed of a pomegranet (although some say three seeds). She wasn't thinking about it, just sort of stuck 'em in her mouth. But that was enough. Because when Demeter finally found her, Ascalaphus tattled about the food to Hades. Now, this may not seem like a big deal - but it had a meaning. It meant that she had to stay in the Underworld, because she tied herself to it by partaking of the food. Moral: don't take candy from strangers. Anyway, so even though her mom sorta rescued her, she still had to spend lots of time in the Underworld reigning as Queen (a third of the year, actually).

Rape is a really common theme for women in Greek myths (as you've probably picked up reading this site), and far more complex than, perhaps, it ought to be. Rape, in the straightforward sense that we use it today (ie, a person does not give their consent for sex and is forced to have sex anyway) does not really make sense in these contexts. That is not to say that our definition doesn't apply - I would argue that it does in most cases - but there's more going on. Sometimes, "rape" is a synonym for abduction and is a way to get outside the traditional marriage contract set up by the father (as in the case of Medea). In such cases, we can imagine that consent was, in fact, given. In some cases, there seems to be a weird and problematic occurence of a woman is raped but then kinda okay with it. There are times, like here, when a woman is abducted, raped, and married to her rapist (normal, since if a woman was raped the law required the rapist to marry her), and remains in this unhappy state for the rest of her life (although it is said by some sources that Persephone grew to love Hades, and there is even the suggestion that her situation was more a consenting abduction - but that doesn't seem very likely to me). There are also straightforward awful sexual rapes after which the victim kills herself or survives (Caenis is a great example of the latter). There is a lot that this myth can tell us about ancient Greek conceptions of gendered sexuality, but I don't really want to write an essay here, so let's move on.

The Rape of Persephone is one of the strongest surviving myths. Statues still abound. And it was a very strong image throughout the ancient Greek (and Roman) world. Around the complicated relationship between Fertility, Virginity, Death, and Rebirth sprang up the oh-so-mysterious Eleusinian Mysteries. I can tell you nothing about them except that they were so mysterious (really) that very little survives about them except that they were really popular.

Aphrodite - The Goddess of Love, Desire, and Beauty

She is the daughter of Zeus and Dione. Aphrodite was very independent and constantely
in search of a new lover. One of her more familiar lovers, Ares, the God of War, is whom
she later married. She felt no pain in being deceitful, as she abused the fact that she could
have anyone and everyone, love and admire her. Of all of her miscellaneous affairs,
and children, the most well knownis Eros, the God of Love, also
known as Cupid.

To find and form a more lasting relationship, you need to add more of the goddess Hera to your life. Check out our Become a Love Goddess in 30 Days workshop to find out how.

Aquaspryt69,

Artemis

As we see her in Western art, Artemis is the virginal moon goddess roaming the forest with her band of nymphs, bearing the bow and quiver, avoiding men and killing any male who looks on her. But this familiar form was only one of the identities assumed by this complex Greek goddess, for she was also the many-breasted Artemis of Ephesus, a semi-human symbol of fecundity, and the warlike Artemis said to have been the special goddess of the Amazons.

It is problematical whether Artemis was originally an all-encompassing goddess later divided into separate identities, or if Artemis became so complex by assuming the attributes of lesser goddesses as her worshipers took control of Greece. But, like Isis or Ishtar, Artemis came to represent the variable energies of the feminine. She was therefore contradictory: she was the virgin who promoted promiscuity; she was the huntress who protected animals; she was a tree, a bear, the moon. Artemis was the image of a woman moving through her life and assuming different roles at different times; she was a veritable encyclopedia of feminine possibility.

In one form she was a nymph and ruler of all nymphs, an elemental force whose domain was the greenwood. There an order exists so unlike human order that it seems to us formless and free, but this freedom is that of complete obedience to instinct, which animals still follow while humans do not. Artemis in this form was the "Lady of the Beasts," the force who assured their individual deaths and the survival of the species. As mistress of the animals, she was the invisible game warden of the Greeks, killing with sharp arrows anyone who hunted pregnant beasts or their young. Again as instinct, she ruled reproduction, both sex and birth. She ruled the childbed; even in late legend, when her dominance was undercut by male gods, Artemis was said to have been the elder twin of the sun (not originally her brother) and midwife at Apollo's birth. It was to Artemis, the force of creation, that Greek mothers called when the pangs of birth began, and they found comfort in their belief that she nursed them through labor just as she did any of her other animals.

As the nymph of the greenwood, then, she is not really different from her other most famous form: Mother Artemis, whose vast rich temple at Amazonian Ephesus was one of the wonders of the ancient world. There her massive statue stood, rising from a legless base into a huge torso ringed with breasts, then up to a head surmounted by the turret crown of her city. This Artemis was merely a different visualization of the same energy represented by the woodland nymph: the instinct to live, to produce and reproduce constantly, to devour, and to die. There is power in the image of Ephesia--as Artemis in this form was sometimes called--a power that could be seen as terrifying, so vast and inhuman is it.

The most beloved goddess of Greece, Artemis was honored in rituals that were wildly popular although as varied as the forms of the goddess herself. At Ephesus, in her well-endowed temple, Artemis was served by chaste priestesses called Mellisai, or "bees," and by eunuch priests. In Sparta she was Korythalia, worshiped in orgiastic dancing. The Amazons honored the war mother Astateia, the mother as protector of her children, in a circle dance amid the clashing of shields and swords and the stomping of battle-clad feet. But apparently the most popular festivals of Artemis were those celebrated on nights of the full moon, when worshipers would gather in the goddess's wood and give themselves over to her power in revels and anonymous matings. The beloved goddess of Greece was the personification of natural law, so different from the laws of society, so much more ancient, so everlasting.

It doesn't surprise me either, Star.

It also doesn't surprise me if we answered the questions the same, BR because in reading your posts you seem to be aligned with my thinking about many things.

It's interesting taking tests of other Goddesses such as the Roman ones and other ancient Goddesses.

Another Goddess that I resonate with is Inanna, also known as Ishtar.

She has come up more than once for me as well on some Goddess tests. Oddly enough she also went to the Underworld.

She is known as the Queen of Heaven and Earth.

Inanna's Descent

The hymns to Inanna are beautiful, poetic, and a testament both to Her power and to Her humanity. She outwitted Enki, the God of Wisdom and her grandfather, and she endowed the people of Sumer with the seven me - wisdoms and gifts that inspired and insured their growth sensuous lover in The Courtship of Inanna and Damuzi. Indeed, Inanna is herself the Goddess of Love, and it is this aspect and power -- creativity, procreativity, raw sexual energy and passion -- that generates the energy of the universe. In the Courtship, Inanna is both the shy virgin and the sensuous mistress. Her coupling with Damuzi is one of the mo st erotic and passionate passages in literature. The marriage is one of body and spirit, and Inanna's passion and expectations link her to women all over the world. After their lovemaking, when Damuzi asks for his freedom, Inanna's poignant lament is "How sweet was your allure..." The Descent of Inanna plays a key role in the Sumerian literature.

The Goddess Inanna descended twice: first from Heaven to Earth to rule her people; second, to the realm of the underworld, the domain of her sister Ereshkigal. It is the second descent of Inanna that is the focus here. Inanna was Queen of Heaven and Earth, but she knew nothing of the underworld. Her quest for clarity and knowledge, as well as her sense of duty as Queen and Goddess, led her to the Earthly realm in the first place. She was a powerful ruler, and yet she felt a strong desire to challenge herself further. "My daughter craved the great below," was the response of her father upon learning of her descent and death in the other realm. In her naivete, she wrapped herself in the me, transformed into garments and jewels, and began her descent. Her sister Ereshkigal, upon hearing Inanna at the gates of the underworld, demands that Inanna must give up all of her earthly trappings before she can complete her journey. There are seven stations through which Inanna must pass before she meets Ereshkigal, her sister and rival. At the seventh and last, she meets Ereshkigal, who seizes Inanna and hangs her on a peg to die.

What Inanna discovers about herself and about life itself as she makes her descent is not implicit in the texts. However, by the time she relinquishes her final garment, she is no longer the commanding Queen. She is open, exposed, vulnerable. This knowledge, and acceptance of her vulnerability, as well as her first-hand discovery of the necessity of sacrifice and death for the cycles of life to continue, increased her power, her understanding, her beauty. Her sister learns a lesson as well: she has her heart opened to compassion. When Enki sent two creatures, galla, below to rescue Inanna, Ereshkigal was struggling to five birth, even though she was barren. The creatures moaned in sympathy with her -- for the first time in her life, Ereshkigal felt a connection to another. As a reward for their compassion, the galla were permitted to take the corpse of the Goddess Inanna away with them, and revive her. But Inanna was not free to leave unless she insured that there would be someone to take her place. When she returned to earth, she found that her husband Damuzi did not mourn her; in fact, he had taken on even more power in her absence. Inanna allowed the galla to take Damuzi to rule in her place in the underworld. For love of her brother, Damuzi's sister Geshtinanna volunteered to take that place half of each year so he could return to his Queen. This six-month cycle insured that the lands would maintain their abundance and fertility, and also served to humble the imprudent King.

Inanna Today
In the Inanna cycle, she is maiden, mother and crone. Her encounter with Ereshkigal can be seen as a meeting of the creator and the destroyer - the light and dark aspects of the Goddess. For modern women, Inanna is a powerful role model. She indeed has it all: she is Goddess, protectress, sensuous, a politician par excellence, intelligent, beautiful, powerful. She is aware of Her position in the world, of Her great responsibility.

We, like Inanna, challenge ourselves, often taking ourselves to task to know more, learn more, be more. This is not necessarily good or bad. But in the doing, in living this life, we too must know the power of the underworld and its mysteries, as well as know the power of compassion. Our personal growth, suffering and pain can be likened to physical death; our psyches journey to the underworld again and again. Old ideas, old visions, identities die; myths are shattered, and are created anew. We rise up, like Inanna, aware of our vulnerabilities, and the strength created from them.

Neat how she humbled that husband of hers isn't it?

Check out our Become a Love Goddess in 30 Days workshop to find out how.

In marriage, you feel no sense of frustration or resentment, because you are an equal partner with your spouse. You seek men who are self-confident and successful, because you are comfortable with the concept that you can be fulfilled through him (and him through you).

But if what you're looking for is an equal, loving relationship, take some tips from Hera and check out our Become a Love Goddess in 30 Days workshop.

See our Become a Love Goddess in 30 Days workshop for suggestions.

Check out our Become a Love Goddess in 30 Days workshop to find out how.
