Hi Ya'all!

Has anyone here ever done henna/Mendhi tatoos or gotten them done?

I bought a kit and have to do some for a bride and a bridal party and it's my first time doing it...I reeeeeallllyyy don't want to mess up.

When you're applying the henna, can you wipe it off quickly if you make a mistake without it staining?

Also, can you use washable marker to draw the design if you're not using a stencil (will the henna still stain the skin over marker)?

I'm excited to try it, so I'll be my first guinea pig!

Well, the longer you can keep Henna the better the colouring will be. There are no side effects since it is natural. Even a minute having put Henna can cause minor staining.

I do henna treatment for my hair, I don't apply it as a tatoo or anything.

No No No! u cannot wipe it of immediately. listen... here is how u go about it....

apply the heena with the tube on the hand/leg. leave it as it is for a whole day. once the heena is dry apply a suggered water solution though a cut lemmon. this will make it give a good colour. do it every time it goes dry. if u have applied in the morning then in the night remove it and see the colour!

also, it is an indian tradition to inscript the grooms name in a hidden manner somewhere in the texture and make the groom search or it during the marriage.

all the best.

Try the book "Mehndi" by Loretta Roome. That tells you everything you need to know (go to amazon.co.uk and type in "mehndi" in the search facility. This will also bring up a Dover book of mehndi designs which is really great.)

If you've never done this type of painting before, maybe have a bit of a practise first? When is the party?

Love,

Xena

Thanks for the great info everyone!

Evolution...the kit that I bought has a premixed henna w/ a solution that you add, so that the lemon/sugar is eliminated. Hopefully, it will work just as well. We are definitely going to hide his name on hers...guess she'll need to have a lot!

Augentier...LOL! I already mixed it and it's been days already. I keep hesitating. I'll try to make ya proud!

Xena,

I have a book called "Mehndi" by Carine Fabius. I also looked up lots of designs online. I'm definitely going to practice on myself first. We haven't set a date for the party yet, but I want to be ready in case they decide to do it last minute!

Does anyone know about the marker thing? If I use a washable marker to make the design first, will the henna still stain the skin through the marker?

Thanks!

Hi EighthMoon,

I have nothing to add about the Henna, but I just wanted to extend my since thanks to you for recommending me to the woman who started the thread looking for practicing astrologers. That was so kind of you, and your description of my posts was also wonderful. It really warmed my heart so I just wanted you to know how much I appreciated what you did.

Thanks again,

Geocosmic Valentine
