[edited: Possible Email Scam]This is real. I just called and registered. Cell phone numbers going public tomorrow REMINDER....all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies tomorrow and you will start to receive sale calls. ....YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222 or go to www.donotcall.gov
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number. HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS

Thanks for the information. I had no idea either that tomorrow was the deadline date. Will have to keep trying at that site. Too many hits at once is causing it to either not open at all or open very, very slowly. IP: Logged |

Oh my God, who knows what to believe anymore. My computer security just warned me about the website that Saatvic Moon just gave to warn about email scams, but it said the website that Heart Shaped Cross gave was legitamit. The fact that it has the last 3 letters of "gov" at the end means that it really is a U.S. Governmet website. So I think he's right. I've never been called on my cell by a telemarketer even without being registered. I've heard that people have registered and been solicited, but that the list is real. Aaaaarrgghh...I need to make a phone call. Geocosmic Valentine ------------------ "Everybody is a star!" Sly & The Family Stone IP: Logged |

Yeah, its definitely ambiguous.
I'd like to know who I called. - They gave the website link on the phone, but I dont see the phone # on the site, if you catch my drift. 26Taurus said:

Good points. I wonder if I'll get calls now, lol. Did anyone "register" a few years ago, and were there negative consequences then? IP: Logged |

I know that one of my aunts registered and she had no problems. Another friend of mine registered and has been fine, as a matter of fact he reminded his friends to register again because the first 5 year registration is almost over. But still I didn't register.I'd be pretty angry at T-Mobile if they gave my number to any telemarketing services, especially since I am charged for incomming calls. That's just not ethical business practice for businesses that have billing systems like cell phone companies. That would make me angry enough to give up cell phones for life. It's a good thing they have caller I.D. so you can see who's calling. IP: Logged |

I've never registered and also never had a problem with telemarketing calls over all these years i have them. Come to think of it, i cant remember anyone else i know with a cell phone complaining of telemarketers calling them either. What alerted me that something was fishy was the ".gov" Personally, I never give my number out to anyone I might not want to hear from. Friends and family get it and that is it. I dont want to possibly someday hear from the ".gov" Though if they really wanted our numbers for some reason (or access to our phones) i'm sure they could get them anyway. Years ago I got a job as a telemarketer. I worked almost one full shift. Towards the end of it on one of my calls a woman flipped out on me - and she had every right to. Not too long after that call, I excused myself to the bathroom and instead went straight to my car and went home. I decided the job wasnt worth it for so many reasons. I remember my boss telling me that unless the person on the other end requests specifically that you "take their number off our list" they can get as angry as they want to but their number will remain on our list and they will be called at some point again. Legally if they tell you to take their number off the list we had to. Otherwise too bad. Until telemarkers start hassling me, i "wont fix what aint broke". Another thing; years ago when i got my first cell phone i remember the woman who was setting me up telling me how the company would never give my number out to anyone. That even if a police officer or government offical came in and requested it, by law or their companies rules (not sure which) they were not allowed to give it out. So, i wont be registering ever. And if it comes down to it, i will live without cellphone. ATM i am doing just that anyway. IP: Logged |

Telemarketers will find some way to get your phone numbers regardless of what you do and regardless if it is illegal. So you may as well register in an attempt to blocked. The number seemed very legit. We felt comfortable that it was taken care of. If we start getting telemarketer calls we can get a new cell phone with a new number. You know who sells your phone numbers to telemarketers the most? Organizations that you donate money to - be it Greenpeace, or whatever the organization is - even political parties sell your phone numbers. I get more telemarketers now than I ever did on my home phone since I donated to charatible organizations and the Democrats. The Drivers license bureau in Michigan was caught selling people's phone numbers. LOL IP: Logged |

Hi HSC, Hope you're doing great. I checked this out on Snopes.com, and although this is true of regular numbers, it came up as false for cell phone numbers. 8th http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp IP: Logged |
