This thread was posted at Heathcliffe's Corner by Nephthys who moderates HC:

http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum20/HTML/000633.html

I have also noticed that there have been frequent pictures and threads about animals at FFA ( I have also done that ) and I think that since HC deals specifically with animals we should be posting our pictures and articles there instead of FFA. I intend to do that in the future instead of posting those articles at FFA.

I think that Nephthys would like for all you who want to discuss animal topics and post your pictures of animals to please share them at HC as many of the people who frequent HC do not post at FFA and HC is designated specifically for the topic of animals.

Some people are new here at LL which is why I am bringing this to the attention of everyone at FFA.

I am not telling people where they should post or what they should post. Just suggesting that they might check out HC when they have an article concerning animals and share that with other animal lovers who would very much appreciate it.

As for Free for All, well the name of this board speaks for itself. Any subject can be posted here but you are likely to get more replies to things concerning animals at Heathcliffe's Corner than you are here at FFA. Same applies to political articles, you would get more responses to those at GU. More responses to astrology posts at the astrology board etc. This is why LL is designed as it with boards for different subject matter.

Besides all this, I am supporting a fellow moderator in a matter that is obviously a concern of hers by bringing her thread from HC to the attention of those here at FFA who don't frequent HC.

So what topics are permitted to be posted at FFA?
Where does anyone draw the line and why is one persons edict the law?
FFA has alot of traffic because folks are FREE TO POST WHATEVER! IT IS A FREE-FOR-ALL!!!!!!!

free-for-alls
One entry found.

free-for-all

quote:
Main Entry:
free–for–all Listen to the pronunciation of free–for–all
Pronunciation:
\ˈfrē-fə-ˌrȯl\
Function:
noun
Date:
1881

: a competition, dispute, or fight open to all comers and usually with no rules : brawl; also : a chaotic situation resembling a free-for-all especially in lacking rules or structure <the press conference deteriorated into a free–for–all>
— free–for–all adjective

MAYBE IT SHOULD BE CALLED;
ANYTHING GOES
or
THIS AND THAT
or
THE SHARING ROOM
Just my two cents.

EDIT to add:
I am sharing here and at HC:
I would rather had started a new thread here at FFA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the H Corner promo Mirandee. I now know your screen name refers to a furry buddy who shared many years with you.
I will visit there more often.
And I thought long and hard about that Rose thread going into GG. Next time I will do a mirror post. My buddy died awhile back. She was a Hemingway cat Had the extra toe on her little mitts. A pink tinged calico, that the vet was in love with. Happily she rarely needed to see the Dr. Her name was Mai Tai. Thanks again...

Hi Lexx,

I am really not sure what you mean by this, who the "one person" is........

But I have noticed that this has been going on for awhile that people often post animal topics at FFA when we have a forum specifically dedicated to animal topics.

That is why I posted my topic at HC just to remind everyone.

Yes, free for all certainly does mean "free for all"........however, I notice that the other forums do seem to stay on track with their respective topics.

If you and LTT are passionate about posting your animal topics here, then that is your prerogative to do so.

I was just pointing out a reminder and I believe Mirandee was only making sugggestions.

Take Care now.

Last time I checked, one person's edict is the law: That's me. I just happen to be a very fair-minded democratic dictator.

There's some overlap with FFA, but if too many Posts of a particular subject build up on FFA when there is a dedicated Forum (whether Lexigrams or political, religion or poetry) for those Posts, I'll just do like I sometimes do and move them. There's a certain tolerance level (Like Daf's poetic Posts in Oranges and Hyacinths), but it shouldn't be excessive. I may move FFA to the bottom.

There is not a specific topic for FFA, so how can it "stay on topic"?
I just happen to like the variety here at FFA, even if it does bring in topics that could be posted elsewhere. It is like a sampler of many topics instead of one topic only. If I am busy I usually only take time to peek in here. I also like how the variety can lighten things up. This is a high traffic room because it does have something for just about anyone., On any given day variety generally rules. I am simply defending the variety of topics started here.

I also do not see how 3 animal related threads on page one, with the rest, 47, being non animal threads...amounts to "frequent" and or excessive animal threads.
The count for 10 pages with actual animal threads is(I think I counted correctly):

1.3..LTT, 26taurus, BlueRoamer
2.1..writesomething
3.0
4.1..LTT
5.1..Mirandee
6.0
7.0
8.0
9.0
10.0

That comes out to in 10 pages;
6 animal threads to 494 non animal threads.
I fail to see any frequent nor excessive postings of animal threads here at FFA.

For Entertainment Just Click Here...

My opinion is that the FFA Forum is kinda' the catch all area. Everything that does NOT fit into another designated topic specific forum area goes here.

I agree that it's ridiculous to see an abundance of threads cluttering up this board, and having to wade through them is dull. I want to focus on Tarot, I know just where to go. Five months from now when I'm thinking about that cute Kangaroo story, I can actually find it again by searching through the PET Focused Forum... I like that, I like that alot!

Randall has been kind enough to designate a place to do and say just about anything that's on your mind. It's just common sense and courtesy to follow some basic guidelines.

Look for the most appropriate forum in which to post your topic. Then post it.
It's really that simple.

If it's innapropriatly placed be prepared to have it moved, period!

Heathcliffs Corner has been VERY slow lately and deserves a bit of attention, that's all.

There are SOooooooooooo many new people here that are not even aware that there are other areas here at Linda Land at alll.

It should be our job and pleasure to help guide them to explore further....

I do that too, 26 taurus. I sometimes post animal threads or pictures in both HC and FFA. Which is fine.

Thank you for clarifiying, Nephthys, although you shouldn't have had to do that. I thought I made my position very clear in my reply to Lexx. From what I stated it was very clear that I was not making any "edicts" but only a suggestion in order to help a fellow moderator encourage people to post more frequently at HC about animals. I also did not get the feeling that you were attempting to make any posting "edicts" either, Nephthys.

I also clearly stated that people can post anything they want to post at FFA. That is what Free For All is about. Double posting here and at HC on animal subjects is a good way to do that.

Thank you for clarifying your position as well, Randall. That way if any threads are moved everyone knows who they can yell at for it. LOL

No one really mentioned an "overload" of animal posts. However, we have had a couple of good discussions lately regarding animals that I am sure Nephthys would have loved to have seen posted at HC so that others who post there frequently could take part in the discussion. That is probably why she posted the thread at HC which pretty much just says in so many words, " Hello, we are over here, remember us?"

Pardon me but you did indeed indicate exactly that above:

This is not the first time stats did not match the statements made concerning "counts" or "frequencies".
If we were to start categorizing topics at FFA it would be interesting to see how many actual categories and count stats come of that. Anyone game?
And how many popular categories could/should, be posted elsewhere? FFA would soon become a ghostown.

BTW...I said nothing about Nephthys. I had no problem with her post. It was valid and her reasons justified and logical.
Sorry for that misunderstanding Nephthys.

But I have noticed that this has been going on for awhile that people often post animal topics at FFA when we have a forum specifically dedicated to animal topics.

Regarding my quote here, my point was that I have noticed this not just in the past few days or weeks but this has been an on and off theme for quite a while.

So Lexx, I am not sure where your stats begin and end (which dates), and I am sure everyone appreciates that you took the time out to analyze the current numbers of threads at FFA dedicated to animal threads compared to those that are not animal threads, but my *personal opinion* is that if there is a forum specifically dedicated to animals, why not just post the animal topics there?

I certainly understand that everyone likes to pop in and out of FFA to check for anything new or exciting that they might be missing, but if you are an animal lover, or interested in any animal topics whatsoever, you can also briefly pop in and out of HC just as quickly.

Also, just b/c HC might be a slow forum, and not many people reply there, doesn't mean that there aren't silent readers there.

I personally doubt that FFA would become a ghosttown if animal topics were solely posted at HC.

quote:
There is not a specific topic for FFA, so how can it "stay on topic"?

What I meant was that book topics usually stay at Pilgrim's Progress, health, diet and healing issues usually are posted at Health and Healing, gardening and topics pertaining to earth, ecology and environment are usually posted at Gaia's garden, etc.

I am tired of having every little word or phrase I type dissected. Thanks for listening and have a lovely day, people.

My posts were not directed at you in any way Nephthys. Sorry for that misunderstanding.
I said so above and at HC that:
quote:
BTW...I said nothing about Nephthys. I had no problem with her post. It was valid and her reasons justified and logical.
Sorry for that misunderstanding Nephthys.

I guess you missed that.

Additionally, I rarely go into HC because I thought it was for imaginary talking dogs etcetera, and fantasy things related to animals. I did not know it was a forum for serious real life animal topics. My error.

quote:
So Lexx, I am not sure where your stats begin and end (which dates),

At the bottom of the page of topics are numbers.
I went from number 1 to 10.
The dates are today, February 15th. back to November 24th.
I hope that clarifies the stats,
which were 494 non animal threads to 6 animal related threads during that time span commencing at 6:30PM today. That is neither "frequent" nor excessive. Taking actual stats, counts, averages etcetera into account ends the exaggeration of counts for or against.

Edit to add:
I also note your concern Nephthys for wanting folks to post their animal topics at HC.
It does cut into your stats there.
From the same time frame at HC:
page 1...50 animal threads
page 2...22 animal threads
___________________________
total for threads from February 15th. 2008 back to November 24th. 2007 are only 72.
That represents 1/12th. of your total HC posts or if posted there it would be 1/14th. of total posts there. That is a valid concern I agree.
I hope I have made myself clear.

OK, I thought you were questioning what I wrote in my explanations.

Imaginary talking dogs? That is funny.

I think b/c HC sits at the bottom of the forum list people forget that it exists, or don't scroll down that far to check it out. I don't mind that it is a slow forum; I just wish people would post their animal topics there, that's all.
