I know we must never do this, but it is so frustrating when the thing won't spray and it is still three quarters full...

No actually...

Did you attempt this?

What sort of aerosol can are we talking about?

What were the contents that could make it worth endangering yourself?

Cheese whiz, Whipped cream... um?

Dude... Never, ever do anything to a aerosol can. EVER! I know 2 people with messed up eyes because they didn't heed the warnings and thought "HIGH PRESSURE, do not puncture!" was a joke.

The other dude was through a fire, the other dude (I wasn't there for this one) punctured it with a sharp object. Guy one's eye was damaged, and guy two's eye was scared and is now a lazy eye.

So, I would say, give it up and get a new one.

You are right of course, but I wish I coulod figure a way to stop aerosol manufacturers making a monkey out of the fools who buy their wares. I have gently heated a can which you are not supposed to do and that helped.
