but how about this:

The optimist expects the door to be unlocked,
and is frequently disappointed.

The pessimist expects the door to be locked,
and often wastes time looking for keys.

The one without expectations is pleasantly surprised when the door is unlocked,
and when it is locked he is not discouraged while retrieving the key.
