I need to get a present for a gentleman of substantial means about to turn 70.

He doesn't need anything, except maybe better health and I can't buy that in a shop. It does mean alcohol is out as he is trying to cut down.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful.

Hmmmm, do you have a price range in mind?

I personally would go for something classy like a Swiss Watch ; Preferably one with a wide metalic strap and a more traditional faceplate. But some might find that a bit too cliche.

If he is an avid music listner (or even a casual one) you can always get him a surround sound sound stereo system. I personally love Logitech's stuff; They are resonably priced yet offer amazing quality.

Here is a surround sound set by Logitech:

You've been peeking at my Christmas list, haven't you?

Male -> bottle of booze
Female -> floral display
Child -> book

You can't have too many of any of those objects

How close are you two?

I have a strange feeling that as people grow into their later years, material possessions have less and less meaning . . . and that a good number of their friends begin to pass away . . .

I would celebrate by taking him out on a nice drive to lunch or dinner, and then have a surprise guest be at the restaurant -perhaps an old friend of his.

Good luck, birthdays are a wonderful thing
