Did any of my fellow brits feel it?!I did! The whole house shook! And I knew what it was as well but then I talked myself out of it, only to be proved right when I saw the news this morning, lol!!!!! And I'm in North London - nowhere even near the epicentre in Lincolnshire!!! It really did shake up the country - how exciting!!! Luckily, it seems that no one has been seriously hurt. IP: Logged |

No! I'm devastated! My friend in Sheffield felt it, he thought it was a poltergeist and nearly soiled himself. Bless. IP: Logged |

I didn't notice. It must be a reverse princess and the pea thing. But I went out walking in woods on a hill so I noticed the gale force wind warning wasn't far off. IP: Logged |

Hi T/G!Be prepared for the potential "Earthquake Hangover." After moving out west, I thought I was imagining things when after each earthquake I felt like I had a hangover. Apparently the ground releases toxins that cause the feeling. Glad that you're safe! 8th IP: Logged |

re .. * The whole house shook! * same here .. we had some fairly strong wind gusts as well .. and the tremor co-incided with a relatively strong one that rattled the windows .. a rather unnerving sensation to say the least .. ~ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/england/7266136.stm ~IP: Logged |

The whole house shook here too, in North Wales. If it had been even a tiny bit worse, we would have had structural damage, I'm sure. Someone in Yorkshire was quite badly hurt though, when a chimney fell into his bedroom. Broken pelvis. IP: Logged |

Gosh - sorry to hear about the fella in Yorkshire - that's about one of the scariest things I've ever heard - I think I saw a Casualty episode where that happened once.... quote: t.g.cusp ~ and bf were trying for a baby .
Good grief - how did you know that?!!! Okay - I admit it - the tremor was our fault (we've both put on a bit of weight recently!) (Oh and number 3 on the list's not too OTT at the moment, I shouldn't think!!!) Hope you're well HD! I forgot, you're quite nearby where the quake struck aren't you?! How's things up there? Not too much damage I hope.... 8th - I had a hangover of quite a different kind this morning I'm ashamed to say! (Tut tut on a school night, lol!!!) Hope you're well! IP: Logged |

~ TGc ~** Good grief - how did you know that?!!! ** taurean tuning fork .. .. picks up vibes of a particular nature .. mainly other t.t.f's .. **Okay - I admit it - the tremor was our fault .. ** ((( ))) no quake hangover here .. feel frazzled today .. but looked at trannies .. t.moon from 4th.house opposes natal sun and squares natal pluto .. paranoid enfrazzlement ;-) **(Oh and number 3 on the list's not too OTT at the moment, I shouldn't think!!!)** no .. but maybe it's giving too much credibilty to the powers at LL .. **I forgot, you're quite nearby where the quake struck aren't you?! ** looks to be about 120 mile as the crow flies .. tremor evidently originated from a depth of 9,5 miles .. .. was felt in holland as well .. **How's things up there? Not too much damage I hope....** nothing major .. just heard on the radio news .. some boffin was talking of how the location was new .. i.e. it's a new phenomenon for that area to be an epicenter .. or be subjected to tremors .. something spooky goings on at lincoln cathedral to blame ?? just perusing the map .. in theory if there were a fault line from boston to leeds .. and licolnshire were to break off adrift in the north sea .. that could make worksop a sea side town .. that's a grim thought to contemplate .. ;-)( ****Hope you're well HD! **** cheers :-) .. and .. you and yours .. is there a marriage date yet ?? I was sitting at my desk. I had just finished writing this poem thing and releasing some emotions. I felt the desk and chair shake- I thought it must have something to do with energy being released, or someone trying to give me a "sign" lol. (But I did also think of an earthquake, as I had felt something similar, a smaller earthquake several years ago). IP: Logged |

Worksop - a seaside town?! Lets face it - it's no Blackpool is it!!! Can't say I'd be too devastated about Lincolnshire though! (Lincoln pub's mixed grill last July = quite nasty food poisoning!!!) Glad you're well HD (my new TV's ready for you! ) No wedding date yet - we're taking true Taurean time over it! In fact it's getting Libran silly - He wants Summer, I want Autumn! Anyone got a date that would qualify as "Sumtumn?!" IP: Logged |

wheels of cheese,Forgive me if I'm being a little picky here, but,... You are "devastated!"? Did your mother just get shot in the face right in front of you? Because thats "devastating". Merriam-Webster:
devastate Main Entry: dev·as·tate Pronunciation: \ˈde-və-ˌstāt\ 1 : to bring to ruin or desolation by violent action <a country devastated by war> 2 : to reduce to chaos, disorder, or helplessness Your friend feeling a tremor is not devastating; not to him, and certainly not to you.
Are you kidding? Being ironical? I know, it seems like a small thing to point out, but I think words are very important, and not to be misused so carelessly. If this is devastating,... Then the word loses its meaning. Then, when a person experiences tragedy and we say "they were devastated", nobody understands the degree of suffering we are attempting to convey. It's like, "I burnt my lip this morning sipping coffee. I'm devastated!" No. You're not.

I was being semi-ironical HSC (some context may help - being from Britain the sensation of feeling an earthquake is a once in a lifetime thing). But you are quite right, when words are all we have here it pays to use them wisely. I consider myself told. IP: Logged |

Hi Wheelsofcheese,I think you SHOULD USE the word "devastated" and not allow someone else to tell you how you feel. The experience of being in an earth quake can make you feel devastated. The ground is the most stable thing any of us knows, more than friends, family, other objects and when you can't count on the ground being stable and supportive, what can you count on? It can leave you psychologically shaken and I think you were honest about how you were feeling. YOU experienced that earth quake, not HSC. You are allowed to own your feelings and people have been devastated by less. It is all about PERSPECTIVE. Your emotional perspective is different from anyone elses. My own experience with earth quakes, mild earthquakes only, has been that I did feel reduced to chaos, disorder, and helplessness. I got over it, but that was how I felt at the time. methinks it were simply an understated overstatement .. imagine a line break (return key) after the exclamation mark .. after the word 'devastated' and maybe read the word 'devastated' similar to .. " ~ Insert exclamation word ~ .. i missed the excitement"re: ** "I burnt my lip this morning sipping coffee. I'm devastated!" ** like as if you were to burn your lips drinking coffeee once in thirty years .. blister burn them .. and you have a public recital to make that day .. and said recital be an exciting event for you .. .. .. about that level of devastation .. having said that .. in the blistered lips scenario ..'devastated' would be hard to pronounce in such a case .. in the uk .. the term used might be 'gutted' .. as in ' i feel gutted' .. however 'gutted' implies extreme emotional heartbreak .. like when the football team loses .. tr.v. dev·as·tat·ed, dev·as·tat·ing, dev·as·tates 1. To lay waste; destroy. 2. To overwhelm; confound; stun: 'she was devastated by the rude remark.' in the uk .. to use it in the context of: 3. To disappoint: 'she was devastated at having missed the earth shake'. is day to day language .. IP: Logged |

Wow, Happy Dragon,Now it's my turn to be devasted (as in stunned) by the vast level of change in perspective once a word crosses the Atlantic Ocean. But then again, I'm much too aware of what we Americans have done to the queen's english. We shouldn't even call it english anymore. Thanks for the clarification. **But then again, I'm much too aware of what we Americans have done to the queen's english** i'd say 'improved' .. :-)) .. knowing what the tribes of britain have done to the queens? english .. could be experienced as an awesomely devastating revelation ..be more to do with 'expressed emotion' .. i.e. the cultural difference big diff. between brits and americans there .. generaly speaking that is ..
