True enough that the PS3 has a more powerful hardware backing along with quite an array of really nice quality games (both graphics wise and gameplay wise) but it lacks a solid multi-player platform with most of its games unlike the X-box 360, which kinda will hurt PS3 in the long run. quote: The wii is an excelent example, it focus on gameplay rather then graphics.
Again yes but the Wii offers a VERY limited genere selection and a few shooter games that have been reformatted for Wii (i.e. Call of Duty) have gotten poor reviews which included problems with the Wii-mote. Wii is great as a starter console but overtime... It just loses its lusture. IP: Logged |

Thank you all so much for your advice!! I've learned sooooo much just from this small discussion here, and I really appreciate all your time spent in relating your thoughts Update: We were at the store yesterday looking at the 3 main contenders. The kid gulped and his eyes got big when he saw the price tags It seems my decision can be postponed for awhile, which is probably a good thing, with the HD/blue-ray disc vs DVD disc (did I get that right??) format issue..... He saw the display of Nintendo DS (in 6 colors and on sale ) and that's what he wanted for his birthday IP: Logged |

Lol! Well Zala, if you're planning in using the game console as a DVD player as well, then my recommendation would be to go for the PS3 since Sony has won out on the HD format competition and from now on, all HD movies will be under Blu-Ray format. And Nintendo DS... Hmmm, if he wants a Handheld game station, then I would say go for the PSP instead since it offers many more features then the DS (and after reading a VGcats comic panel, I am not putting my fingers on a DS touch pad again... *shivers.*) IP: Logged |

It depends on the person how important having a BlueRay player/ HD DVD player is.When I got my ps2 I paid $299 and i figured that since dvd players were going for about $100 i was technically paying only about $199. The only game i really liked for the wii was Trauma center second opinion. Your right Xodian, about the control having problems, The first game I played with the wii was RedSteel and the controls were so terrible and left things to be improved on. but even then most of the big titles and good games become available on all the platforms anyway. Its funny because I'm taking Game Development but playing games and making games are a lot diffrent and I don't rally play that many games. Its a mix of art and programing. I'm just glad her son isn't addicted to and playing WoW. IP: Logged |

Lol! Actually the only decent "Action/Shooter" titles I love for Wii are: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (not to mention Samus Arron is a total babe Lol! : ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUtEJtJHy-U (I personally love Metroid commercials Lol! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0BHnm0IGBw No more Heroes (Too bad Helter Skelter ain't one of the main characters and don't you just love that music! : ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGtgqw3IsVI

True but keep in mind that game engines are just gonna get more demanding and demanding for the big shot titles (which is why I usually say go for PC games but that's more the domain of the solo gamer Lol!) Just take Haze for instance (PS3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWv2O4jQmOg Don't think Wii can handle that Lol! quote: Its funny because I'm taking Game Development but playing games and making games are a lot diffrent and I don't rally play that many games.
Funny you say that because that's the same comment most Ubisoft programmers have made during their interviews. I am curious to know why is that... quote: Its a mix of art and programing.
Perfectly so. Prince of Persia series is a testiment of that.

And I personally hope he never does... *shivers.* IP: Logged |

Lol! Zala. WoW (World of Warcraft) is a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.) The appeal of these type of games is the fact that they just don't end... Its a forever continuing story game (well... as long as the servers stay online Lol!) You create your character and as the game progresses, you gain experience and earn gold through with you can buy better weapons, armor, etc. for your character to enchance their fighting or support capabilities. The virtual worlds created in these games are MASSIVE!!! (Think of it as having a virtual world version of your own continent to explore Lol!) so it keeps players occupied for quite a long time. The problem arises when people become totally addicted to the game; losing almost in touch with reality and engrossing themselves in the game to the point where they just almost start to cut off everything else from their lives. I personally refer to WoW as the "Soul Sucker" Lol! I do not blame Blizzad for creating WoW. Its a good game if played in moderation. But there are people who would take anything beyond a healthy limit.

Thanks for the warning, Xod And my little Arien is just the type to become immersed in this too He can play video games for hours!! I have watched him sitting in the chair in front of his computer wriggling for at least a half hour because he needs to pee, but he won't stop the game and streak for the bathroom until it's unbearable He doesn't have an internet connection (yet)..... I have a wireless router with antenna on his cpu, but I can't make the doggone thing work :-\ Suppose I'll have to call in the Geek Squad one of these days (holding that back as a reward for getting chores done ) Thanks again -- Forewarned is Forearmed!! Lol! I personally would recommend just holding out on network play for the time being. I personally love it having friends over and playing games with them face to face rather then network play these days; It allows better social interaction. But that's my personal take on it.IP: Logged |
