Just a reminder:

Do NOT ever think that smoking is a WEAKNESS. It is NOT. It is an ADDICTION. Tobacco is a physically addictive substance, just like alcohol. Addiction is a DISEASE, not a weakness. In no way, however, does this (calling it a disease and not a weakness) absolve you of any responsibility for the care of your disease. Diseases *can* be put into permanent remission.

Thanks Z'

I know, not a weakness... but i still won't do it, so I am just trying to not make excuses for myself to go smoke again, that's all.

It aint going to happen!

I hate YSL right now. That was my brand!

Yay that girl!! Spot on Zala.
The tobacco companies want you to be addicted and they've put every weapon in their arsenal into keeping you that way.
You are NOT weak.

I gave up 4 and a half months ago and it's going to stay that way.

My source of willpower? I'm not going to be any corporation's b!tch. Also because a friend of mine really helped and I think about him whenever I wobble, because I don't want to let him down. He showed faith in me when I needed it.

Definitely an ADDICTION!
Also I had heard that vitamin A is bad for smokers and actually increases the risk of cancer.

If one cannot exercise much or at all some days, and is allergic to most herbs, and or has tried the herbs with other horrible side effects....
well willpower is the only thing that works.

Or becoming disgusted with paying $40 and up for a carton.

Warning too about the non tobacco smokes...
most have extremely high tar levels! In some studies it was determined that it is not the addictive nicotine which causes cancer, but the tars.

My Mother quit after smoking for 30 years, she has now been smoke free for 10 years!
I'm so proud of her and she did it cold turkey.
I never wanted to smoke after seeing her have a nicotine fit!
LOL

Hello Unmoved

Yes, it is getting much better and I noticed that my skin is looking better too.The other thing is that I cannot stand the smell of smoke either anymore. It was hard at first but it's much easier now

You still going strong - GOOD !!
Keep me informed.

Hello everyone!- just wanted to send the best of energy to both Charmainec and Unmoved (and everyone) in your quitting smoking!! -

And mention that I also quitted smoking, to be more precise 5 months ago.
I remember I started smoking in highschool Then as the years passed I continue just as an habit and the addiction settled. I tried quitting a few times- but to be truthful I was like: "ok, I'm quitting"- but then somethig would happen and I was like "what the hell". I think I was not really convinced of wanting to do it.

The serious decision to quit smoking is one of the best I've taken in my whole life!. I just thought- "I don't want this in my life anymore". And it's been 5 months, and I'm super happy, I don't even feel the need of smoking one.
Like some of you also mentioned, I can not even smell the smoke of other's cigarettes! I have friends (and even my bf) smokes, and I'm always asking them no to do it near me, because it really make me nauseas.

Just wanted to share all this and remember that it's a big step the only thought of "wanting to quit"- so don't be upset if you fall in the temptation, just got up and start a new day with the same thought and energy. It's an every-day fight.

Best of lucks again!

hi. i had my last cig on 4th december. from 5th onwards, i quit! thats 5 months without a cigi.

remember, there is nothing like quitting gradually. u have to kick the butt in one go. i was really sick of cigis. i would have the first one of the day out of habit. and then the remaining 6 or 7 would just happen. it used to drain me down physically and mentally. even while on a hill station i wouldnt feel the thin cool air in my nostrils anymore. now, things have completely changed.

i feel a certain amount of self confidence. i feel i have the ability to exert my self in the right direction. and this has shown its results.

i smoked only for like 20 months. but i had become a chain smoker. add to it my depressive mind set and my lack of active life. i used to get a miserable feeling at the end of the day.

smoke free lifestyle is very good. and u have to realize this fact inorder to take the first step. also u need to be patient for the first couple of days with ur mind as it would not let u be in peace. try to quit during holidays. so that u can confine urself in ur home and not go and buy cigis. offcourse u got to get rid of the stock at home. and please done lend it to someone else. trash it and save someone from inhaling cancer.

remember there are people who dont have money to cure cancer, and so there is no point wasting money to buy cancer.

there are many work arounds like some chewing gums and artifical cigs etc... but nothing like being mentaly strong and saying 'NO'. after a couple of days with this attitude, u get an entirely differnt HIGH.

one practical tip, if u smoke in a group, try to be away from that group during their smoking periods.

all the best.

and one more thing.... i had contemplated for months about quitting before actually i could make it happen. so dont worry if u cant quit initially. if u think of it long enough, u eventually will.

usually when i desire something a lot it generally happens. its especially true with things. these days i am cometemplating about dad getting me an apple mac notebook and an iphone with it comes to india. lets see if it works. sag luck i guess. hehe.

The hardest thing for you lechien is "What the hell are you going to do with your hands!!!
You will have to find a replacement activity
Here are some suggestions.
Knitting, sewing......?
Safe cracking? Your fingers will be very dextrous.
Precision engineering....never too late to retrain!
Watch repairing? All those fiddly bits.

I used my cigarette as a prop and would make bold flamboyant gestures whilst waving it around.
When I gave up I tried to do this with a glass of wine in my hand.
This is not recommended.
However one does clear a large circle in a crowded pub!

It's getting better. Still eating alot though and chewing like crazy. Sometimes I will get an intense craving out of the blue but I just shift my attention on something else.

Unmoved, how you doing?

Hey. No smoking here! It feels alright but I miss it to be honest. Basically today is my first bad day without having the smokes to run to. Actually- even thinking about smokes rubs me the wrong way. I also stopped eating a lot because i said that if I can quit smoking I can stop binge eating too so its water and food. I am just having a bad day where cigarettes could have helped.
