How do I play Poker online?

Please help.

I am interested in something called Hold'em Up Poker, on Facebook. I am scared to even try.

Can somebody point me in the right direction quick. Pleeeeeease. I tried going in there but some guy kept harassing me to play when all I wanted was to watch. I haven't dared to join a table ever since.

I just want to be competent, not great (at the moment).

Please help! LOL

*on bended knees, begging*

Unmoved,

If you get the Bravo network, you might want to watch Celebrity Poker tournaments - fun to watch, great way to learn! That's how I learned the rules - there is a commentator who explains it all. You can get some practice at Yahoo! Games.

Also, check out this link with basic poker rules for beginners: http://www.directoryofonlinepoker.com/basicpokerrules.shtml

And, it's "Hold 'Em", not "Hold 'Em Up", unless you're talking gangsta-style, which I'm totally in the dark about!

You want to play online Poker?

You want to play a game against a computer which you didn't program with programs and subprograms which deals:

You, a pair
The house, a better pair

You, a straight
The, house a flush

You, 3 of a kind
The house, a full house.

Gonna sell my house and buy Lotto tickets first.

LOL! Well Jwhop jumped the gun with his explinations . But he is right about the fact that you can't trust computer programs for poker; You can surely bet the probablility protocals for that program have been tweeked with. The program will surely deal a higher hand.

Unmoved, Jwhop is talking about Poker hands . There is an ascending hierarchy of cards and hands.

Lets start off with the basics:

In any hand, the ascending power of suits is this:

- Spades
- Hearts
- Clubs
- Diamonds

And the ascending hiearchy of cards starts from 2 and goes all the way up the chain to the Ace of that particular suit.

When you play any hand, and if by assumption, the other player ends up with the same hand, the person who has the higher Suit or has a higher ranking card in the same suit wins that hand.

As for the hands themselves well, this is what Jwhop is talking about. The hands are in ascending Hierarchical order:

That's all right Unmoved. Let me suggest you go to your library and check out a book about Poker. You'll learn the terms, the values of each hand and perhaps some strategies and tips.
