i just want to get some opinions on this. is it just me or does anyone else wonder if heath ledger would be getting talks of oscar nods, etc, if he hadn't died? i mean, i thought the guy was uber talented and i really really liked him. but i can't help wonder about all the hype. i haven't seen the movie and don't know how good his performance really is. the guy was great in everything he did. so it's safe to say it's brilliant. but is there extra hype because he died? are they rewarding him for leaving early or for his talents?IP: Logged |

I'm sure I will end up with tomatoes thrown my way on this response, but....... We will never really know. Like with James Dean an Kurt Cobain... Maybe they were brilliant, but maybe we put so much into our admiration and fanaticism of them because they died tragically and so soon... Maybe they shared all they really had to offer to us, in the "omg, this is amazing" realm, that if they were still here, they would be giving us some "ho-hum" stuff that we would all end up trashing? ... Fame and celebrity.... perhaps they all knew better, or perhaps they were never meant to go any further?... IP: Logged |

I suspect it might be part hype (glorification of the young dead) or maybe a realisation that he was good (like River Phoenix). I haven't his latest film but a friend of mine said he was very good. Personally, he really has never been to my taste.IP: Logged |

ghanithat's exactly what i was wondering. because i'm thinking along those same lines. yes, we'll never know. still have to wonder whether people are appeasing themselves for his death. same with cobain. i never thought he was anything special - i still don't see it. he does nothing for me. something i've noticed in real life is that - eg. when someone was a total jerk while they were living people suddenly talk about them as though they were saints after they die. Go to your synastry for Kurt, PA. I have really bad synastry with Kurt in terms of aspects. He's all water, me all air but all of his water placements fall in my 4th, 8th, 12th houses. His moon was conj my IC. The connection I felt with Kurt was so spiritual, I've never really felt it with any other artists. I cried and mourned his death for two years. IP: Logged |

All i can think of on this topic is that I really liked Heath Ledger as an actor. When he died i remember thinking , that is too bad , I think he would have become one of the greats. So having said that I suspect some of the buzz is true. Once i see the movie i will get a better sense of it.IP: Logged |

I consider myself a harsh critic and his performances in brokeback and the dark knight were top knotch.IP: Logged |

I just saw the Dark Knight, and while I would have been inclined to say it was hype prior to seeing the movie, I am not inclined to say that now. He was excellent in it. Not quite Denzel Washington in Training Day, but almost.I don't know if I've seen a more perfect super hero movie. IP: Logged |

I agree AG.The way his face was done up reminded me a bit of Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) in The Crow who died while shooting the movie.
