Topic: Aussies, can you help with this phone mystery?

I received two calls to my cellphone earlier this evening. I'm in New Zealand, btw. The number looks as though it might be Australian because it's starts with 0061 and the next numbers are 755 (I won't type out the rest). I looked up area codes and 7 is the area code for Brisbane... am I on the right track? Or is this number possibly a cellphone number?The WEIRD thing is that of the three people I know of in Australia who MIGHT have a reason to call me, only one of them lives near Brisbane and they don't even have my New Zealand number (I texted them from my Australian cellphone number when I was in Sydney, but never gave them my NZ number). There's ONE person I can think of who's in Australia who might still have my NZ number but as far as I know they aren't near Brisbane and for them to call me would be pretty far-fetched, because we aren't/weren't close friends. A wrong number from Australia seems pretty far-fetched... so this is a big mystery! So... am I on the right track thinking it's a Brisbane/QLD land line number, or is there any possibility that this number came from a cellphone?? Maybe I should have just answered the phone.

Yeh...you shoulda just answered!!  Your on the right track...its all of Queensland that starts with a 7... not just Brisbane.. Its not a mobile number or that would start with a 4... Maybe its a sercet admirer!!!  IP: Logged |

Oooooh, exciting!  Ok, so it came from a landline somewhere in Queensland... hmm... would a telemarketer call a cellphone in another country? I just can't imagine who in Queensland could be calling my cellphone. I could call the number back, but I'm too chicken. IP: Logged |

+61 is the Australian international code
As mentioned, Qld state code is 7
Most Brisbane numbers start with "3" however, Beaudesert area starts with "55" (I did an online "test" using McDonalds in white pages) - this is hinterland Gold Coast area.Hope that helps. Hmmm i never pick up # i don't know. People get so mad at me but I really never do...but yea this is a mystery...really could be a wrong number maybe they were trying to call someone in NZ and got you. But try google-ing it , if its not a cell phone it should be listed IP: Logged |

This is so cool, thanks for all the help figuring this out! I know NO ONE in the Hinterlands/Gold Coast... so it could be a wrong number maybe... how fascinating this is. WHO is the person in Beaudesert??? Yeah BUD the number looked so weird when I saw it, with way too many digits, so I was like I'm not answering that! I'm paranoid about unknown numbers so I always wait to see if they leave a message. The weird thing is that they called not once, but twice. I don't think I can make a call to Australia from my cellphone but it does let me do texting to Aus. So it's unfortunate that this didn't turn out to be a cellphone number. Hmm. Yeah I still get perplexed myself with strange calls from many years back, my mind still ponders....Yeah a script is necessary Koi. I'm too gutless, I can't do it plus I only have a mobile on no plans so it'd cost heaps (no landline). GL - what time NZ did your calls happen? Maybe it was a business call in business hours that just went to the wrong number (ie your phone). IP: Logged |

I'm off to the endodontist today, so I'll try not to call with cotton balls in my mouth. That would be bad PR deux - Venus must be retro at the mo. I just don't feel attracted to anyone at the mo.
