Fir Tree Removed From Man's Lung

(April 13) -- A Russian man who had been feeling chest pain and coughing up blood got some stunning news from his doctors -- his symptoms were caused by a tiny fir tree growing in his lungs, Mosnews.com reports.
Doctors spotted a tumor on an X-ray and had expected to find a cancerous tumor when they conducted a biopsy on Artyom Sidorkin, 28, earlier this month. Instead, they found green needles embedded in the tissue.
"I blinked three times, and thought I was seeing things. Then I called the assistant to have a look," said Vladimir Kamashev, a doctor at the Udmurtian Cancer Center in Izhevsk in central Russia.

A 2-inch fir was removed from Sidorkin's lung.
"... I never felt like I had an alien object inside of me," the patient said. Doctors suggested he inhaled a small seed, and it started growing.
If you'd like to see a photo of the tissue enveloping the fir tree, go to the story. Be warned: It's fascinating, but a little gory
Mosnews, an English-language site that provides news from Russia, says it drew information for its story from Komsomolskaya Pravda, a Russian-language newspaper.

Isn't it?

It's scary, too! Can you imagine how this happened? The guy must've just been walking around, got tired, and decided to take a nap under a fir tree.
Even if he slept with his mouth agape and to the floor, it's still a wonder that a fir seed got into the trachea and lodged in his lungs!

It's too bad it wasn't pine. He could've had a free breath freshener.

Is that a reputable newspaper, or of the national enquirer variety? That picture is disgusting.

It does look like a raw steak speared with a sprig of rosemary. But I doubt it tastes as good.
