Today’s brain candy: I was watching Jeopardy! And the category was “Words that look like they should rhyme, but don’t.” Examples were DEVOUR and DETOUR. How many can you add to that list off the top of your head? 👍🏼💥👍🏼😎✨⚡ My FELLOW LEXOPHILE GOT ME ONTO THESE

Brain Candy: Words that when you change one letter become another: for example, BALLOT to BALLET and then to BULLET. What’s the longest chain you can come up with by making a new word by changing one letter at a time? IP: Logged |

They are called eye rhymes (or visual rhymes or sight rhymes). Other examples are Sean Bean (pronounced Shawn Been), love and move, wood and food, come and home, bough and though mind and wind (movement of air) etc.Mar 5, 2021 http://ell.stackexchange.com Term for words that seem like they should rhyme because of the way they are spelled, but don't IP: Logged |
