I've mentionned this previously on a thread, I feel it needs to be given some decent attention.
Around a year ago I discovered the mooncup. A simple cup that sits inside you that collects the blood during that time Sounds icky ? Yeah it kinda is, but the advantages are way too good to pass up !
First of all, the planet gets a break, we throw away towels and tampons and for what ? Mooncups last for 10 years, all it needs is a wash between cycles. You will get significantly reduced pmt. Pmt is mainly caused by annoyance at having a period, with a mooncup you forget you're having one, less tension, more happy ! The pmt levels will go down each month, before long you will enjoy your period !!
No leaks, imagine lying down and then theres a nice big blotch of blood where you were lying, not anymore !!
You can do more, swim, run, whatever the hell you want.
You empty it only about two/three times a day, making the rest of your day wonderful as you won't need to check to see if you're about to leak ! Plus due to the reduced tension your periods actually become lighter ! I do get the odd heavier month but it's rare.
It's also guaranteed, if you don't like it you can send it back.
You seriously will not go back to your normal methods after trying this ! I tried mine about a year ago and have sworn never to go back. It's a little miracle.

The website is www.mooncup.co.uk I'm not sure if there is a USA version. If you go on the 'what is it' page you will see my email to them thanking them !

Please do yourselves a favour, you will thank me afterwards !

hi tahariel ~

i have something similar as well called the keeper. i love it, but i am going to try the one you mention as well. the keeper is made of natural gum rubber and should last 10 years.....well worth it, and it helps in just the way you say.

Here's some personal information EVERYONE needs to know!!!! I feel like sharing, and it's definately a girly thread.. so here goes..... I love the idea of this.... here are my concerns...
The first two days of my menses, I feel like I am hemmorhaging(sp) It is horrible.... cramping all up and down my hips and legs, as well as my lower back and abdomen. I must change my (superplus) Tampon every hour at least and wear a pad as well. ( I know, lucky girl... but I am a Scorpio, so reproductive matters are the only thing really plaguing me.. I enjoy my womanly parts the rest of the month very much though)
Would such a method be conductive to my particular cycle?
Also, I have a cervix that dips to the left quite significantly. I tried a birth control method called "the sponge" ( Which Elaine from Seinfeld made popular culture) The problem is, afterwards, I couldn't get it out...... I know my body quite well, and it actually, while worrisome, resulted in a funny story. I had to phone a nurse line, and tell them I had a 'sponge' method inserted, and couldn't retrieve it, even with my husband's help.. I squatted, I pushed, I prodded..... They suggested of course, that I make an appointment ASAP, as a foreign body shouldn't stay inside for longer than sixteen hours.... It was going on that.....
Well, they actually had to enter into the computer...*"Patient has a foreign body stuck in vagina" *
* I immediately flashed to the Urban Legand(?) of the woman and the frozen hotdog... or banana, or bottle, etc....*
So, On my permanent record, in the computer, is a 'foreign body in my vagina'.. not A CERVICAL SPONGE, but a 'foreign body'.
Clarification, please!!!!
Yes, I got it out, much to my relief, and discomfort....
So... after this story, do you think, because my cervix is far to the left, and my fingers are quite little, do you think this method would be a good one for me?! Don't want to 'dig' during the cycle, just want it to end... you know?

Incidently, My hubby's fitting parts *cough* are perfectly aligned with my *cough* receiving parts... perty neat.

pixelpixie,
Your flow shouldn't matter, you may need to empty your cup a bit more often but you also may realise that you don't have niagra falls as much as you thought ! I believe I have a normal flow and I empty once at night, and once in the morning. On a heavy day I empty in the noon too, but that's all ! The chances are your flow will reduce as you become more relaxed.

As for your dipping ! I would think that it would be fine. I guess the best thing to do would to ask the people who make them, only they have that experience. When I come to empty, I have to 'push' like I want to pee (go on, laugh), and it pushes the cup far enough for me to grab it and pull.
Considering you have small fingers that should make it all easier. I find the most annoying thing is having to file my nails down enough not to pinch myself inside :0)

All in all, any disadvantages will NEVER outweigh the advantages ! I'm sure all those who use them will agree !

As for the Keeper, isn't that the US version ? :0)

I guess I don't know what you mean by "relaxed"..... My PC muscles? My hormones? My state of mind? I wish...... This is my monthly flow that I have had since it was restored since breastfeeding my daughter for two years... My menses stopped, and I was on a low dose birth control pill, then I stopped taking anything, because my libido was diminishing and I was really upset about that.... (I am a dog again....) But I guess the side effect of not having any altering substances ~ natural from nursng or otherwise~, is that my flow is sucky..... It's a trade-off for plenty of desire the other times.... I can live with it... but honestly, if I am home, on my period, which I prefer, it appears to be so much blood.... I have heard a statistic about actual flow, and that it is something insignificant, like a few tablespoons full, in a cycle.. well, let's just say, I don't think so in my case.
My question is though, do you insert it all the way to your cervix, for comfort and stability/retention? Or would you insert it similar to a applicator-less tampon ~ Sort of mid-way...
Just curious... and you use them, so it will be easier to find out from you than literature...... Also, would it conceivably stop the flow enough to resume sexual activity, if we were careful not to displace it??????
