I canned green beans today, for the first time in years - all by myself!!! 8 pints. Plus I cut basil and have 2 quart bags in the freezer and a nice bunch to dry. The tomatoes are starting to come in (got them planted late) and I will be making fresh tomato sauce with fresh basil and oregano within the next week or so. Red beets will be ready in the next couple of weeks, as will the carrots. The Swiss Chard is pretty much done, but the potatoes are almost there.
My freezer is full and the root cellar will be soon as well. Thank you to the Powers That Be for allowing me the joy of harvest!!!

Blessings to all

Oops. I thought it said 'The Joy of Caning'. I was looking for some hot bamboo-across-the-backside action...

Seriously, though,

That's great, LLL! I really admire those who know how to work the earth. I'm just a city boy who has never (yet) learned the fine art of growing things. I consider that a deficiency, and one of these days I will correct it.

And I just looooooove green beans! Cooked or raw, I eat 'em by the heap. I'll bet your garden-fresh ones are mighty tasty!

Paras - My ex could put you onto some sites for the caning if that's what you're into.
Seriously (or as serious as I'm going to get tonight) I love my garden. I used to hate it when I was a kid - out there for hours weeding and hoeing and picking - but as I've gotten older I've realized what I was missing. There's just something about getting your hands in the dirt that keeps you grounded, no pun intended.
Have you ever tried growing a window garden? A tomato plant or two, some peppers, that sort of thing? My best friend lives in an apartment and has tomatoes out the yin-yang growing in laundry soap buckets. I even knew someone who grew beans in a window box. Don't be afraid to try. You never know what you'll get.

Blessings to you
