Hi. When is the best time to start the veggie garden? We usually start by this time of year but so far it's a no-go, mainly due to weather, and the stores don't really have the veggie plants yet. Also, what's the best dirt to use? We have to buy a lot of new dirt. I'm not talking about garden soil or potting soil, we really need just *new dirt*. Then we mix the garden soil in. (someone must know what I mean) IP: Logged |

Topsoil?I should know - I've used plenty with the sand for soil that we have down here. I've planted a few things - two types of green peppers, some jalapenos (actually, a bunch - I'm going to dry most of them and ship them to my Mom), two everbearing strawberries, a pumpkin, and a better boy tomato plant. I might plant more, but we don't know how much longer we'll be here. We might not even be here long enough to get more than a few strawberries and tomatoes, but some other family would soon take the house and have a luverly crop (it's a military post so, yes, there would be someone else here soon). Better to leave things better than you found them, no? IP: Logged |

Ok, so you guys have already started. We need really good dirt/soil this year, because last year our garden just didn't grow at all. It was terrible. The years prior were excellent. Thanks for the info. + I look forward to more!!! IP: Logged |

We just planted this afternoon! We got some great organic veggie plants at the farmer's market this a.m. Tomatoes, orange/yellow bell peppers, yellow crookneck squash, lemon cucumber, and red lettuce. Then we went to the Earth Day festival and got some seeds!! We got chard, parsley, lettuce, and some others I can't remember. Even got some wildflower mix seeds. Oh! We are relandscaping the front of the house, and the landscaper brought us some great dirt! So hopefully things will grow nice and healthy this year!! please cross your fingers!!! IP: Logged |

so far so good. This weekend I started some seeds in little containers. I guess we'll know in a few more weeks how things will turn out. IP: Logged |

Finally it's warm enough to get new plant! I bought a cherry tomato, and green peppers. My catnip has become a BUSH!! OMG it's taking over! Potatoes are finally showing. Chives and garlic are excellent and the money tree that was previously killed by the two cats has revived and is alive! Take that cats!
