They are similar to Morning Glories, but they only bloom at night. They are Very large and white. VERY Pretty! IP: Logged |

How to Grow: Moonflowers like full to partial sun during the daylight hours. You will like the fact that Moonflower thrive in poor, dry soils. That makes them useful in areas where many other popular plants just won't grow. It also makes them easy to grow with little care or attention. Just plant them, and away they grow! Add mulch around the plants for appearance and to keep weeds down. Fertilizer can be applied, but is usually not needed. Moonflower are annuals and susceptible to frost. They may survive the first light frost with only a little damage. Moonflowers are most often planted near a house or building. So, a light frost may kill the plants away from the house, yet spare your Moonflowers for another day. They will not survive a hard frost or freeze. http://www.gardenersnet.com/flower/moonflower.htm Hope your flowers do well!

MY Moonflowers always bloom and they smell intoxicating. Sorry but I don't have any tips to give as I just leave my moonflowers alone, don't even water them, and they are happy- even when I moved them from one part of the garden to another, I was worried they would die, but they proved me wrong. Apparently you can make a drug from the moonflower and it is like one of the worse drugs you could take. Anyone heard about it? IP: Logged |

I bought one 2 years ago. It growed into a climbing vine and then one day it shriveled up into the nothingness from whence it came. Dunno why? Poor little thing. IP: Logged |

The moonflower is a vigorous twining vine that is very fast growing in really hot weather. It is a tender tropical perennial but is now seeing popular use as an annual vine in colder areas .... Usage Except in its native habitat (Zones 10-12), use as an annual vine in summer. In frost free areas moonflower will grow to great heights and drape the forest canopy in great green curtains (check locally, this vine may be invasive in some areas). Plant on any structure that will give support. Note that a single stake is nowhere near sufficient! A fence, arbor, or gazebo are ideal for showcasing the moonflower and keeping them near the ground where their beauty and fragrance can be enjoyed. http://www.floridata.com/ref/i/ipom_alb.cfm I don't know what zone you're in, Nephthys, but perhaps your Moonflower worked out as an annual. Also, some plants that will live for more than one year (but not by much especially in certain climates/conditions) are sometimes sold as perennials instead of biennials or annuals and it can be misleading since they do die off naturally.
