My 4th house Sun is always dreaming of owning a home. I'm considering one day living in one of these contraptions. I like the earth friendliness of them. Anyone ever been or lived in one? What is a Yurt? The Pacific Yurt is a modern adaptation of the ancient shelter used by Central Asian nomads for centuries. The compact shape of the yurt and combination of lightweight members in tension and compression mean that the structure is highly efficient in maximizing strength while minimizing the use of materials. The Pacific Yurt is a lightweight, low-cost, state-of-the-art version that retains the sense of wholeness of the ancient form while delivering the structural integrity, longevity and low maintenance demanded by modern users. Though generally classified as a tent, the yurt is much stronger and weathertight. The Pacific Yurt is a circular structure that consists of a durable fabric cover, tension band and a wood frame that includes a lattice wall, radial rafters, central compression ring and a framed door. "There aren't many places where you can sleep this comfortably and still see the stars." - James H., Wyoming Typically set upon wood platforms supported by simple post-and-beam systems, Pacific Yurts have minimal impact on the surrounding soils and, though durable, can be removed without a trace. Their flexibility allows them to be used in a wide variety of applications, from simple cabins to fully furnished retreats, complete with plumbing and electricity. As the original manufacturer of the modern yurt, we have since 1978 shipped our product all over the world, where they have been used in an array of personal, business and government applications. "It is an ingenious design, fun to put up and a very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing space." - Laurel H., California http://www.yurts.com/default.aspx IP: Logged |

That does look pert dern cool, though I can't say that I've ever been in one.I was in a "real" one in Mongolia once. It smelled. We were supposed to sleep in it, but ended up taking all the blankets out and sleeping under the stars with our Manchurian guide. We probably all did so because we were drunk from some Mongolian-burns-your-insides- and-is-served-in-double-sized-shot-glasses liquor. Japanese business men made me do it with their damned toasts to American students. While doing so (sleeping, not drinking), I got bit on the lower back by a spider that made my skin rot. (I know that it was a spider because the little bugger scurried out from under me when I woke up and rolled over in the morning. Little b@stard.) We all then played soccer while still drunk/going into hangovers. Fun times. Goodnight IP: Logged |

Prox, That sounds a fun trip! ........weeeeell, except for the spider bite......and the hangover.......and the smelly Mongolian yurt. Okay! Nevermind! Maybe not! I wouldve slept under the stars too. Ew. I can assure you that my yurt will not smell. And you are welcome there anytime. *makes a mental note to invest in lots of incense and Febreze.* IP: Logged |

I haven't lived in a yurt for any extended period of time, but have stayed in one at a place called Paraiso Hot Springs near where I live in California. Also spent some time in one in the Santa Cruz Mountains on a retreat. The round shapes really seemed to foster good energy, feng shui aside. Felt very satisfyingly connected to the Earth. Seemed like a great structure for a getaway or meditation and yoga at the least... silvermoon IP: Logged |

Oh how cool that you dreamt of her and then acually got to call her your own! I often dream of being in houses. Usually they are HUGE and never ending mazes of rooms upon rooms with strange doors. Sometimes colorful and beautiful othertimes drab and disorganized. Mirkwood is a great name for your girl. I bet you have a beautiful cozy home, especially since Venus is living with your Sun in your 4th. Yeah, with that 4th house Cancer influence, Home really is where our Heart is. Someday...
