Fleas-get a tall candle, a seven day candle or whatever candle works for you (I hve used votives but they need to be swapped out more often) get a wide big bowl or lasagna pan or the like..you'll need water and dish soap. Fleas will jump towards the whitest warmest thing- set the bowl on the floor, pour in water up to about an inch from the rim, add some dish soap- it floats so a squeeze or two is enough! center the candle in the middle-on an upside down small jar or something and light it. Darken the room so the candle is the brightest thing. The fleas will jump to the flame, land in the soapy water, the soap melts their exoskeleton and they drown in the water. No harm to us or our pets by ingestion. don't burn anything down though!!!Use caution around curtains and kids! Twenty mule team borax, a detergeant additive, when spread around the room and swept into the corners, will desicate cockroaches and fleas as well. The draw back is living with loads of powder stuff around. The advantages are great. Doing both these things BEFORE moving in somewhere is a good idea, too. About mint, I put a large mint plant on the back patio where I work to deter ants- Guess what? A colony of fire ants moved in!!! oh, wellIP: Logged |

A few more from this book- "Easy Does It- Cheap and Simple Ways to Solve Common Household Problems" quote:
Salt your dog to repel fleas If you hate fleas and those chemical-laden flea collars for dogs, wash your pet in salt water instead. Fleas will quickly look for another victim. For added protection, rub some baker's yeast into his coat once it's dry.Natural flea remedies Make a lemon tonic to get rid of your pet's fleas. Slice a whole lemon and place it in a pint of almost boiling water. Let is sit overnight. Next morning, apply it to the pet's skin with a soft cloth. Repeat daily as needed for bad infestations. (Don't use this remedy on irritated or broken skin from too much scratching.) Ward off fleas and ticks Help keep your dogs or cats pest-free with a little garlic. If they'll tolerate it, place a few cloves in their drinking water. (In my personal experience, I would wrap a clove of garlic in a slice of cheese or stuff it in a piece of hotdog and feed it to my dog daily. I found this helped prevent flea infestations.) Control fleas and ticks Add a little vinegar to your four-legged friend's water bowl. Fleas and ticks should stay clear after he dirnks this unusual potion. Ditch the itch If your pet has dry, itchy skin, add a tablespoon of olive oil to his good every day. You should see an improvement within a couple of weeks.

Hey Tux!!!With our blessed very wet spring in south Texas I have a mass enslaught of fleas!!!! My 5 dogs are outside and my 4 cats inside, but still the little creeps get in... So, between chemicals and natural remedies, I am slowly itching less and less and my cats and kids are as well... As I write a white candle burns upstairs, the only carpeted place in my casa, in a white pan of water with soap in it----dem ltl buggers are floatin dead now!!! HAHAHA! Tho, I still have to deal with the eggs and larvae, atleast I feel quite triumphant over the live, breeding ones!!! Thanks!!! Terri ps let me know when the seaweed flees----holding off on trips to the Gulf until.... IP: Logged | |
