Does anyone know what type of flower could be called flags? It is a bulb type. My neighbor dug some up and transplanted them. He gave me a bunch and he said they are "flags". He said they get tall and have blue flowers. I can't picture them being in his yard last year, and went through my books and didn't find anything. I was hoping to find out their real name so I can find more out about them. I am so eager to get out to the garden and flower beds, it has been so nice here the past week, but we are supposed to get one more cold snap here this week. I also misplaced my almanac of all things. (

Oh cool thanks. My grandma had those, but she just called them irises. I never heard of them referred to as flags. Hopefully, they will grow for me.

Pretty flowers! I've wanted to grow Iris for a while but am currenly in a very tropical location. I've heard Louisiana Iris might do well but I've no idea how to find them over here. I could order but not sure how international shipping of plants works.

I guess this is very off topic and I'm sorry, MelanieB. If you'd like, we can start another thread.

Well, my curiosity got the best of me again and I looked up your location, Juni ... "Blue Star Kachina" and came across this link. Hopi Prophecies

Was speechless for about 5 mins.

Is this a good explanation of things, do you think? I have come across similar things before but not quite put together like this. Somehow, the more I read different sources, the more they seem to say the same things.

You know, I was sure I'd either talked about your location with you before or that I read your location before as something different. I hardly ever remember where anyone is from. It's just a thing. Like names. I usually don't catch a name upon introduction to a person but will remember if someone points that person out to me. I don't get it.

Anyway, now it's on my lexi list. I do remember you being gifted at lexigrams so please share if you have one! I'll have to go through that link more thoroughly as soon as I ... ordain more time.

Beautiful flowers! I looked up Iris ensata and I believe someone right around here actually grows some in their garden. Maybe I'm wrong but I'll have to check around this weekend to see if I can spot what I think I saw again just in case. (I don't know that I've got the zones quite right.)

I admit I'm one of those people that stares too long at other people's gardens as I walk by. I just wish I could speak to these folk about their gardens! It's like a passion over here. My husband knows a local who is really into gardening and his English is better than my Japanese. I'm thinking of asking him or his wife for help at the local nurseries once we move out of this apartment into a house.

Anyway, thanks for the inspirations!

Hi again Eleanore

I smiled when you mentioned Blue Star Kachina because tink & I were just talking about it. A nice synchronicity.

Gardening is my passion too and I thank the good Lord it pays my mortgage as well.
I design, plant and maintain gardens. I enjoy teaching others maintenance as well.
My own gardens are my pride and joy.

I do hope you can have your own as it is a wonderful family endeavor too !

Hey, Juni. It's funny because for some reason I thought you lived in Alaska, like Harpyr. But after this thread I looked closer at the gas prices thread and realized I was wrong.

I synchronicity.

So that's what you do! I always wondered what you did besides having your family and loveable llamas. That's amazing. I love plants but am only a beginner gardener really. I planted my first perennial bed in NC which I loved but had to move before it truly grew into its own. Right now I'm making use of our balcony space but I'm itching to get my hands in the dirt again. And they have such pretty local botanical gardens here that I'm hoping I learn a lot! Sometimes I really wish I could work with the land for a "living" but I'm afraid of taking on more than I can handle. Just another reason you completely rock.

Nephthys

Hi! I read Jasmine and laughed at myself for not thinking of that first! I actually thought daisies. They just seem so joyful and peaceful to me and so do you.
