i had lost my night blooming jasmine plant when i moved and looked and looked for another reasonably (5$ or less) priced replacement. For some reason i went to a Flea Market on the way home from visiting someone in jail on Sunday. i walked what seemed like miles "just looking". Finally when leaving, i kept being blocked by groups and families from goiung out the door i wanted to leave by and ended up leaving by a different door and there was a lady with plants and one NB Jasmine with flowers and for $5! Thank you universe! This plant has blossoms day and night. They are white. They only have a scent at night. If i pick them at night when they are at the height of their scent, the scent remains with the flower for days and can fill a whole room with its fragrence! I put the blossoms in my bed. they certainly ease my rest and bring out my feminine side! Does anyone know if the plants can be propagated from cuttings? or how to propagate them? in my South Texas town they are used as ground cover but cut back before they blossom! I have a one person campaign to allow these plants to grow and blossom into the night and fill this city with their scent. My feeling is that the scent would dissipate some of the violent acts and thinking that occurs. What do you think? Love, tuxedo MeowIP: Logged |

I think that's an awesome idea!Your story of Universe Gifts was delightful as well I absolutely LOVE jasmine. It grows wild most everywhere near my home. I'm pretty certain that cut pieces can be floated in water to aquire roots, then replanted. I say give it a try? I've reproduced many different plants this way. Most take 3 days to a week to notice small roots. When the roots get about an inch long I place them into the earth with lots of love. ------------------ Sendin' love your way, "your friend in spirit" IP: Logged |

Tux, I have had luck in San Antonio propigating them, however they are terribly cold intolerant. Try planting them on the south side of your place so during the day they will heat up for a long winter's night. I have many in pots always loose them to cold, harsh winters, to the degree they bounce back is indicative of how cold the winter was. Mine in ground and pots took months to recover and finally grow and bloom from last winter's harshness. Terri IP: Logged |

Ah yes, a wonderful plant! Terri, i have no "ground" anymore, just a condo with balconey and the "back end" terraces of the place I work! i give thanks for what I have though. Everything I grow is in "pots"-I now have two of the night blooming white flowering Jasmine! "They" say to keep them well-drained and in as much light as possible as long in the day as possible and that they will recover from cold intensity. i want more blossoms because I am so addicted to that scent! It is wondrous how one or two tiny blossoms can fill a room with fragrance for a day or two! what a gift! they also attract some gorgeous night flying insects like a mouse sized dragon fly that came avisiting the other night! Awhile back i was in Espinoza (sp) at a feast for a healer named El Nino Fidencio. I was repeatedly told by the curanderas and curenderos that "my" plants provided me with great spiritual and other protection. if i could choose my flower protectors and i guess i can i choose jasmine and lilacs! Of course S Texas is not the best for lilacs- Anyway i will try to root some cuttings and let ya'll know how it works-maybe use the purple plate. Just having a sleepless night- love tuxieIP: Logged |

TuxThis winter I intend to winter my Jamsime in my sun room, cause I love the fragrence too!!! In the past, in pots, I have let them be, and have been very disappointed with the results. Last winter, when we had the big ice storm, it took, really, months, for them to recover. I thought they had had it, but they came back, tho took a long time! Other winters, in pots, I have let them be and cut them back in early spring and they have blessed me with their fragerence all summer. I think last winter, with the ice was a bit too much, tho the roots DID survive, and now in early Autumn I have.... Fragerence!!!! IP: Logged |

It is 8pm here and dark and I just got home from work, and went out in my front yard to water my beds and potted plants and from around the side of the house, from the back yard (and I do not have a small house or back yard!) the gulf breezes brought to me the scent ofNIGHT BLOOMING JASMINE!!! I was SO excited, have NEVER been able to smell it from my front yard. When I went out back to water, my gosh!!! So many flowers!!! I picked a few and placed them in a vase.... Heaven!!! IP: Logged |
