As I was walking home tonight, there was litter everywhere, the verges where the wild plants grow are full of trash, fast food wrappers and other waste that will take years to rot away.

I spent my time taking care of my little bit of land, putting down manure for next years crops.

It just makes me wonder why people do not care? they will throw fast food wrappers out of their car window onto the pavement and drive away.

I've seen worse, like a still lit cigarette thrown out of a car window onto dry grass obviously not caring that he could've made a lot of people homeless had it lit (and it might've if I hadn't stomped it out).

Someone let their dog poop on the sidewalk and it was less than a foot from a Catholic church grounds but the groundskeepers there wouldn't pick it up.

I saw little kids climbing in a tree above a bunch of broken glass and a lot of broken glass on the street and parking lot where kids were doing kickflips on skateboards over (a lot without protection). I asked the mothers who were there if they were worried about their kids being hurt by the glass and why they didn't clean it up and they said it was someone else's responsibility and if their kids got hurt they'd sue to cover the medical.

So there's why: they don't care and it's someone else's responsibility.

It's really sad.

I daily witness a big dump of a cornet every time I go to my bus stop; dog poo, cigarette butts, plastic of all kinds, paper of all kinds, gums, wrappers, anything u can imagine is thrown in there in the area right behind the bus stop. The irony is that this area is like a little park, this corner behind the bus stop is green, with gorgeous tall trees and evergreen bushes; would be a great place to walk your dog, or relax after a walk. But people have turned it into a big "green" dumpster, dog toilet and car parking.

I can't fathom the reasons either.
Irresponsibility?
Passive-aggressiveness?
Laziness?

For me, this is behavior that goes hand in hand with lack of consideration about anyone and anything not directly related to the Self.
Some of these people are "educable" if you sit down with them and explain/show the consequences of their actions to others/nature/etc.
Some others are beyond hope...

Lack of awareness is the human kind's biggest enemy.

i wonder the same often....and its the things that affect more than just a small handful of people....i see objects laying on the road and wonder why anyone would throw it out of the car because it could potentially damage the underside of it...then i wonder if they would think twice if it was their car that drove over a hazardous object

I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate?

when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history

While not thoughtless litter (it was deliberate malice) I recall when I picked up a bunch of small pieces of wood with a nail through them someone had carefully placed over a bike path just waiting for a bicyclist not paying attention to run over them.

Yep, disgusting.

Kids on my block litter everywhere they go. They even sit in front of my porch and LITTER. I've asked them to clean up after themselves and to be an a$$ they litter even more.

Talking to their parents is no help they are JUST as sloppy, tossing trash where ever they please. And obviously they don't give two sh!ts about their kids or else they wouldn't let 'em stay out till 11:00 pm or later. And these are LITTLE kids btw. I'm seriously at my wits end.

I am SO glad someone feels that way! in my neighbor hood there's a ton of kids who just litter everywhere and it drives me nuts. There was once glass in the parking lot...seriously they don't care cuz they don't hafta pay for someone's new tire. Many of these small kids r out all evening with no parental supervision. Smh....I myself recycle all the #1 and #2 plastics in my house and also anything glass. I've wondered how many bags of trash wouldn't go into a landfill each yr if each and every household managed to save on just ONE lone bag of trash a month by recycling. Which shouldn't b hard to do once u add up how many gallons of milk an average household for someone with children may have. Such a shame.
