I enjoy gardening, just like the patience and growth that comes along through the warmer months and even into the late Fall in the Mid South.

Like growing:

-Herbs, esp Oregano
-the more pricey veggies like Tomatoes
-the fast growing stuff like Zucchini

However, don't like spending lots of time in the garden, just odd old me I guess. To me spending hours tending sort of defeats the purpose.

Anyone else enjoy gardening and planning on having one in 2013?

I hope so, too. I don't even know if I'll be here in a few months. A week ago, though, I was planning a garden in my head - it was the one thing keeping my head above water. It just makes me feel better, being out in the fresh air, and being productive. Things just taste better out of the garden, too.

oh~ I'm like that too teasel - really need the fresh air, specially come early spring, when it's still crisp in the morning... that's when we clear the brush from fall/winter usually, and then in the summers being out when there's dew on everything! I don't know why but the garden always feels most alive at that time, and I just love sitting near it even doing nothing. XD

We have a huge vegetable garden behind our house, plus a green house, plus the grapes all over our backyard to the house beside ours, (our house is connected to that of my grandparent's-in-law)... ry old world, Portuguese family, grapes are a given in their gardens... so is lettuce, tomatoes, all kinds of peppers, cucumbers, and my father-in-law recently started with strawberries (but it didn't ork out so well, think it was a soil issue...) He has dates, and some other mini orange/citrus trees/bushes now too... the children are involved in everything, I help when and where I can with his... before I had my own area of the greenhouse, for my potted herbs... but, that couldn't last.

Normally, I grow a visually appealing herb garden! haha I like to have things mixed up into certain patterns each year... when I was home that is... I had a garden theme... white, yellow, blue... (well yellow included some orange on occasion thanks to my love of marigolds, and there were bleeding hearts around the back wall of my garden... they were magnificent... I always kept sunflowers beside the house for the animals too~

It was more for the animals all in all... than for my own use... but, my sage, the leeks, thyme, watercress..... I used these for cooking... My mother's garden was massive in comparison... we had a whole variety of flora between the front and backyards of my old home... Lilacs were her favourite... but she had some tropical irises of some sort.... that took over a lot of space, and our huge Juniper tree... x.x but, for vegetables there was nothing my mother wouldn't try to grow... she's very into nature, very much a Libra... eye for beauty and love for all... very strong with gardening. ^^; it was one of our best hobbies together... well.. that and card games/yahtzee/scrabbling!!! hahaha

I grew up with a garden, every year I try to get my son more into it, hopefully he'll start taking an interest and my father-in-law will be so kind to let us grow stuff in the actual backyard for a change... (although I like the potted herbs... don't get me wrong... it's all low maintenance this way!) haha XD But, I'd like to see my kiddie get his hands all dirty, and have a blast like I was allowed as a child... (my father-in-law dominates the garden.... seriously, he's a permanent fixture out there, the living scarecrow from early May to late September... that's where you'll find him)... (he's earthy too, Virgo Sun)~ oh but he has flower garden in the front of our house... but the rear of both houses he maintains as veggie/fruit garden... ^^ my equally Libran mother-in-law only tends to the dead foliage... cleaning... she's got a lot of Virgo in her too... hmmm~ maybe that's why... but, she does like making teas with the mint leaves out there... haha they have some other plant... it smells like licorice... I don't know what it is in English, but in Portuguese it's pronounced like "foonsha" lol yeah~ this is a special type of vine/herb of some sort that they use to remedy upset stomachs... and just about everything else you can think of. ^^; it makes good tea~ I'll give it that.

^^ I promised I wouldn't ramble anymore this year! SORRY!!!! ><;

Good luck with the gardening everyone! <333
(and handling all the critters that come with it!) <3

Ramble away!! I love it.

Last Summer, when I was just standing and looking over the things I was attempting to grow, I saw two young deer run down the trail, across the back of our garden, and then into the woods. It was one of the highlights of my year. That was when the weather was way too hot, so they were probably looking for water, but in late September, a doe wandered down the same train, and stood for over half-an-hour just inside the edge of the woods, eating away. So beautiful.

Last week I was looking up easy vegetable gardens for one, and for beginners and container gardens. Would really like to have something that isnt too high maintinence and that I could manage building on my own. Some fresh herbs and vegetables would be nice to have.

I liked the Quarter-Acre Garden. It got me thinking about the space out there, and what I could do with it.

I'd love to cut down on the food bill - especially now that I'm trying to juice more again.

Same here (cutting down on food bill). I don't have much yard space here unfortunately. The small backyard is the stray cats domain now. So I've got to stay small and get creative about it.

I'm not gardening but I am starting to mix and drink green drinks!

-spinach, celery, cucumber, parsley, ginger root
-apple, pear, banana, lemon, lime

It's so good and doesn't even have a bad "earthy" taste!!

I got a few plants from Walmart the other night. Mum got Parsley last week, and I picked up cilantro, mint and basil. I just need to remember to water them!
