I was looking and reading thru where to place this topic. I thought it may belong here since its part of Gaias ocean ecosystem.I'm a bit sad that my beach doesn't have very many varieties of shells. This is my loot today. Any shell experts have names? IP: Logged |

Hi Ami This is the venus comb shell. I have it for about ten over years since I was young. My shell is nicer than this one. I painted it with clear polish so it would be shiny and glossy. Till this day it looks good as new ! It's beautiful. Wonder if your beach stocks this. I found my shell at another location faraway. IP: Logged |

That is lovely, Di. I have never seen a shell like that but I can see how it would be a prize possession.------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. Check out my journal http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

I have a shell memory to share. One time our high school classroom took a trip to the shore in a VW mini bus (I'm dating myself here), to the conch canning facility, and outside of the building was a huge mound of empty conch shells, which we sifted through for good specimen to bring home. With mine, I sawed off the tips, filed the holes, and made them into a conical musical horns. They get a variety of notes when you move your hand inside the bell part and you can play actual 3-4 note songs quite nicely. IP: Logged |

Timing is important when collecting shells, and you always have to be on the lookout for unique specimens. IP: Logged |
