I have been doing this and I am getting tomato and cuke plants. I did the same with pieces of potato. I forgot about it and today pulled up something and it was the potatoes. Also, if you plant tomatoes on the porch, the bugs won't get them------------------ Want To Ask Any Question About Bible Prophecy? Go For it. It is Free, of course. http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

Not good for the light of day to find them.Even if they are too close to the surface, they will turn green. IP: Logged |

They're real heavy feeders, I just went to Moss Landing and loaded up on Kelp for my Compost Pile the year after I grew them. That's the perfect restorative following harvest. You want them well below, but not too far for harvest, cause they're just loads of fun to dig. Potato Fork is nice. Friends of mine grew the Peruvian Blue. Purple, whatever. IP: Logged |

About the Kelp...My Mom was so ticked at me. She was all dressed up for a hot date up in Cachaqua (Carmel Valley) and I had her out there trying to load up all this briny mucked up pile of intertwining Green spaghetti strands. Think that pile stood as tall or taller than we did. Ah, the things we do for Love (of the Earth.) Hauled that stuff Three Hundred Miles... Everywhere we went you could smell the Sea. I mean I could hear the Wave Crash as I wrote this. Good thing I carried a Potato Fork. IP: Logged |

I really think they are beautiful plants. You don't want them heaving out of the ground. If you start to have a problem, mulch them. Sometimes you get the healthiest gardens coming out of the Compost. We had such a beautiful Pumpkin as you wouldn't believe. Fully expected Linus to pop his head out at any moment. IP: Logged |

tomatoes are notorious for self regenerating from composting seedsa friend of mine told a funny story. when growing up (in a warm climate) there were tomato plants growing all throughout the forest. she asked about this and found out that the people would eat tomatoes, poop in the woods, and therefore grow tomatoes the natural way.
