T O P I C R E V I E WRedScorpWhat orbs do you consider appropriate? What aspects do you use? Personally, I'm forming the opinion that very small orbs (of about 2) and only conjunctions are functional. But idk, what works for you guys?I reason such an opinion because asteroids are very specific, with rather certain meanings attached to each one. So therefore, if you must use less meaning, stronger meaning, you must use less orb, stronger aspect. Feedback anyone?RedScorpI also reason such because if regular orb and other aspects aside from the conjunction were to be used, the chances of an asteroid being activated go up exponentially. Asteroids have concentrated meaning, so therefore, I want concentrated aspect. There are many asteroids too, with many of the same meanings...soon one meaning, shared among many asteroids, becomes more readily aspected. I personally prefer the core of things and I feel tight conjunctions bring up the core meaning faster and more dynamically. If I were to consider opposites, trines, or any other aspect for that matter (major or minor), I think the orb would have to be lessened to like, 1. Maybe even 0/exact. RedScorpSorry if this is presented rather academically. I have just finished arguing with someone (arguing, not fighting! argue is = to debate in my vocabulary) and when I argue, Air Mercury takes over and I become some scholar, writing papers for a writing professor. You know...stating everything clearly, incisively, removing anything personal, be it bias, opinion of the person, or emotion. Ceridwenmy personal approach:conjunctions are the strongest and most significant and can be valid up to 3 degrees. For some reason however I have found EXACT trines to be extremely significant (maybe because the same element is emphasized?).I am using other aspects as well, but only up to 2 degrees TOPS.EXACT aspects always deserve my attention, even if it should be just a sextile. however a 3 degree sextile between asteroids is basically meaningless imo. Also, I have a certaina pproach to using asteroids. I donīt MIX different myths, UNLESS they signify the same thing (for example JUNO and ISIS are both queen goddesses and reside over marriage - they have something in common. However OSIRIS and ASTARTE may not).Paying much attention to "pairings":Jupiter-JunoZeus - HeraPluto - Proserpina or PersephoneAdonis - Aphrodite or VenusDionysos or Bacchus - AriadneEros - PsycheOsiris - IsisSiva - Kaali or ParvatiHowever for the pairings I prefer "divine complements/ pairings" to mortal ones like Lancelot and Guinevere for example. These may be important as well, of course. But I just think ther eis a reason people invented a divine pantheon, ther eis something very archetypical about them, and the human pairings may be more specific, maybe even in a past life sense. However personally I love Lancelot and Guinevere and Tristan and Isolde, but they just "feel" different in impact to me.Of course I have my certain set of "love asteroids" I always check. But these may be different for every astrologer.I have had to make these guidelines for me, cause I just need a systematic approach, anything else is not comparable to me.So I have my relatively fixed set of core asteroids, and only in very secondary or tertiary sense I look up specific others. It might feel quite arbitrary, but that is how it is workable to me.Ceridwen quote:Originally posted by RedScorp:I also reason such because if regular orb and other aspects aside from the conjunction were to be used, the chances of an asteroid being activated go up exponentially. I actually find myself most often concentrating on the conjunction/ opposition up to 2 degrees, and the other aspect with maybe 1°30, depending if there are other tighter aspects.Usually a sextile would get only one degree orb at most for me, but I expand it to 1°30 if that asteroid is conjunct another important object.Example:Her Psyche: 24°03 Aquariushis Eros: 22°43 Arieshis Mercury: 24°48 AriesIt is still not foreground, as the orbs are rather generous, and we are talking about asextile here. But I find it difficult to separate his Eros from his MErcury in this instance, they are conjunct within 2 degrees approximately, and it may give him quite some rogue verbal charm; he may easily eroticize or attract by using his tongue - speaking I mean. And doing so in a rather straightforward way.AelineI am sticking to small orbs unless it's a dw or a soulmate couple, you know. But i prefer using only conjunctions and oppositions with asteroids. RedScorp quote:he may easily eroticize or attract by using his tongue - speaking I mean.l o lCeridwen, I've seen you around for like, ever, but I never saw...or if I did I forgot...what gender do you go by? @Aeline; that seems to be the general census... CeridwenFor this incarnation I go by the female gender. And to be honest can`t identify with any other gender, though I am not "typically feminine". *sighs* Courtesy of an Aqua Moon and Sag stellium I guess.and the balance of an exact Isis-Osiris-conjunction near to my Venus (2 degrees most).You?ail221For conjunctions I actually go up to four orbs simply because if I notice a heavy pattern of conjunct Divine soulmate patterns say Eros-Psyche, Siva-Kaali, apollo-innannen, etc.Even people that are textbook soulmates(Joanne Woodland and Paul Newman) have wider orbs and if there are more than 5 cases of say 4 orb conjunctions I'll still take those into consideration. With sextiles up to two orbs, trines and oppositions up to 3 orbs if they are trine luminaries. RedScorp quote:You?I'm a male! But like, have you SEEN me???? Ahem, for meeee...Eros: 21 ScorpioPsyche: 11 AquariusIsis: 8 TaurusOsiris: 7 Pisces (ou sextile whataya know!)Siva: 18 TaurusKaali: 29 ScorpioAelineYes, i have seen on those textbook samples, that even Moon and SN conjunction is taken into account - of 6 degrees... however, if i'd take such an orb for every connection i have my Moon conjunct their SN, i'd have soo much "soulmates" in my life, because my Moon is in my SN zone, basically all people born around that year has their SN near mine. So, take 6 degree orb both sides, and you've got huge amount of people.. However, maybe it makes sense, because i feel bonded with them too, just not in a way i am with the one, who has his SN EXACTLY on my Moon. SO - maybe it is ok to use wider orbs, but be aware that - the closer the orb, the closer the connection. ail221@Red scorpio regardless look at asteroids that are important to individual natal charts.
