I'm so cappy | Any ideas? I know about Nostalgia and Melancholia. ------------------ I'm sooo happy! I mean, cappy. |
Keela | Requiem, Grieve, Sado? Although some people seemed to interpret Sado as something to do with sadism or sadomasochism instead of reading it as saddo the way I was inclined. Look up the Death in the Family style thread I had a while back, and whatever death or loss related asteroids people threw in either on that one or in the earlier post I linked to in it. |
I'm so cappy | Thanks! ------------------ I'm sooo happy! I mean, cappy. |
BlackSeraph | I can verify that 5180 Ohno can show up in some very sad moments. http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum28/HTML/001368.html - An example is the approximate transit of when I was informed my mother passed away in 1989. It was prominent in my dad's transit chart at that point too as I remember. |
neptunicity | Ohno asteroid is in my 7th house. It makes sense due to heartbreak... Lol. |
SunAscendant | 5188 Paine 3811 Karma (bad karma sometimes)Perhaps first name asteroids of people who hurt you in the past. |
deepseastar | Once again, people in this thread are twisting the names of asteroids without researching their actual significance. quote: Originally posted by BlackSeraph: I can verify that 5180 Ohno can show up in some very sad moments.
Ohno was named after Keiko Ohno, a Japanese scientist who promoted public awareness of astronomy. quote: Originally posted by SunAscendant: 5188 Paine 3811 Karma (bad karma sometimes)
Paine was named after Thomas O. Paine, former administrator of NASA and leader of the Apollo 11 mission. Karma was named for Birger Karma, a mathematician and founder of a society for amateur astronomers. quote: Originally posted by SunAscendant: Perhaps first name asteroids of people who hurt you in the past.[/B]
Better yet, draw up their charts and do a synastry comparison of your chart with theirs. |

Well considering those asteroids have been prominent when bad things have happened I would say yeah they can be difficult. Someone with the name Diana uses that asteroid because it's her name asteroid, not because she's tying it into the mythology of the asteroid. Someone with the last name Valentine isn't using it to mean love, they're using it to represent their last name. Also, there are tons of websites that list the meaning of asteroids, so people will interpret the asteroid as they see fit.

It's pretty f*cking hilarious how you think people will stop using the asteroid Karma in relation to karmic moments and connections. Literally everyone uses Karma in the literal meaning of the word, not by who discovered it. Please learn before you spout off things. |

Yeah, I should probably know better than to expect people to stop being stupid. quote: Originally posted by SunAscendant: Literally everyone uses Karma in the literal meaning of the word, not by who discovered it. Please learn before you spout off things.
Literally everyone? You mean the name "Karma" has had the exact same significance and meaning in every time and place, in every language and culture? Please spare me, it's only Tuesday. |
Lerena | quote: Originally posted by deepseastar: Once again, people in this thread are twisting the names of asteroids without researching their actual significance.
I understand what you're saying, but asteroids can mean different things for different people. Looking up how an asteroid was named doesn't actually change what it means for certain individuals. Someone's transits during a moment of utter misery can involve an asteroid that doesn't otherwise indicate pain and sadness. |
Faith | What is the point of asteroid astrology if it's not, above all, an adventure in linguistics? The word itself is fair game for application however we see fit. We have that freedom. My name asteroid is on my IC. It does not mean that the original person for whom the asteroid was named has something to do with my home. That would be silly. |

You're an idiot. Look at how nobody is agreeing. Lol can't argue with someone who who literally DOESNT even realize she's the only person who thinks this way. |

You sure have an interesting definition of truth. Also, I (a dude, BTW) am not the only person who thinks this way. Other people have also criticized Ami Anne's misuse of asteroids and her generally bigoted approach to astrology in the past, but they get shouted down by zealots like you who won't inject any common sense into what you're reading. Just because someone talks a lot doesn't mean they're saying anything of importance. |

Explain why people's name asteroids like Diana (78) and Daphne (41) and Irene (14) show up conjunct their sun or show up conjunct their partner's Venus, NN, Vertex, Juno etc. Why would this happen so frequent and not mean anything? Obviously none of those three women who have those names are like their famous Greek mythological counterparts; the common theme os that their first name asteroid is simply conjunct their sun because they were meant to have that name, nothing more and nothing less. Their name asteroid conjunct their partner's Venus shows him interested in her, it doesn't show him obsessed with their Greek counterpart. |
astri | Thought to add some asteroids I recently found that is associated with a sad story so to speak: FEDOTOV: He was an amateur Russian painter known as a Russian Hogarth.[1] He was only 37 years old when he died in a mental clinic. There was also an unhappy love affair that contributed to his troubles. He started to spend money wildly, and offered to marry numerous women in Moscow at the same time. Eventually, his strange behaviour led to his arrest by police, after which he was put in a mental hospital. The illness progressed rapidly. The treatment was not very helpful—it included brutal corporal punishment. Some of his friends visited, and left some notes. He died in a mental clinic.. HUMPTYDUMPTY: is a character in an English nursery rhyme. He is typically portrayed as a personified egg, though he is not explicitly described as such. It was also eighteenth-century reduplicative slang for a short and clumsy person. The riddle may depend upon the assumption that a clumsy person falling off a wall might not be irreparably damaged, whereas an egg would be. Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the king’s horses and all the king’s men Couldn’t put Humpty together again. >> To dream of Humpty Dumpty almost always references this nursery rhyme, It may also indicate a feeling of futility about fixing a specific problem, since “all the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again.” HYLONOME: dealing with grief and loss, the cry of the victim. Here's more explanation and interpretation this asteroid. LODEN: Marilyn Loden coined the phrase 'glass ceiling'. A glass ceiling is a metaphor used to represent an invisible barrier that keeps a given demographic from rising beyond a certain level in a hierarchy. The metaphor was first coined by Loden in reference to barriers in the careers of high-achieving women. PIRANDELLO: was a Sicilian writer who suffered from personal tragedy, leading him to explore madness, isolation and illusion. In his well-known play Henri IV Prandello's protagonist loses his mind, after falling from a horse. He was honored by the nobel prize in literature. VIOLETTA: This asteroid may give misunderstandings in romantic relationships, as well as ill health. The individual's morality, respectability and/or social standing may be questioned or judged to their detriment. Faithfulness in love is possible. Tragic events may be experienced. implosions | Melpomene (18) is the muse of tragedy/grief. An example for me would be I have Melpomene conjunct Diana exact in my chart, in my 8th house/Scorpio. When I first went and saw the new Wonder Woman movie, Diana's character was so deeply moving for me that I legitimately wept in grief for the entire film, and on/off for the next three days. I couldn't for the life of me understand why I was so deeply, emotionally triggered- even to this day I don't fully understand it. But something about the character (specifically Diana, possibly specifically THAT portrayal of Diana) gave me such intense amounts of released grief that I felt almost reborn when I stopped weeping. Perhaps it was just the first time I'd truly seen a female-directed, female-written, female-acted perspective of such a powerful character, that it was soul cracking. (My issues with Gal Gadot aside) I think it was a monumental moment in history for women to have that movie come out, whether the box office or anything else has something to say about it. My soul was profoundly touched to be able to see such a powerful expression of femininity on screen. |
LoveAstrally | LODEN [5937] sounds more like an interesting challenge to me. NIOBE [71] was a pretty sad story. Boasted about her fertility to Leto and so Leto's 2 offspring (Apollo and Artemis) killed her 12 children. She returned to her home city and was turned onto a rock. Brutal. LACRIMOSA [201] Latin for weeping - discovered in 1879 by Johann Palisa. He lost it shortly and perhaps named it after his sadness? |

i find asteroids mostly a curiosity and don't generally put much weight on them, so i have no real personal feelings towards this discussion but... when i read tarot cards or runes etc my cards can have very specific associations that come up repeatedly whereas for someone else the same card wont have the same meaning knight of cups, always me, but for someone else that card won't be mine i just recently had a talk with a friend about the difference between what the devil tends to indicate for me and what it indicates for them even just from a basics of the occult stance the meaning you give things is the meaning they have, regardless of what it might mean to another person the subjective value and meaning of any given object whether it be an asteroid on a chart or a sigil or an herb etc and so on is what means something someone could make their own system and it'd be just as valid as something old as long as they know what theyre doing a sugar pill can heal you if you truly believe it can, why wouldnt an asteroid work the same in a chart? edit: just noticed that was ancient oh well, point still stands if anyone reads through all this |
