T O P I C R E V I E Wsweet_faceAre these as important as squares, conjuncts,Sextiles,Opposites,Trines??????The Mutable Night ForceHey, I was reading about them last night!Short answer:No. No, they're not. Hope that helped. It's mainly because they are in-betweeny angles which aren't really that strong aspects.Oh, apart from quincunx, that's the signs before and after your own, so 30' I think.nove731A quincunx - also known as an inconjunct - is 150 degrees, MNF. sassygrrrlthe Quincunx - yes The rest - no The magi astrologers have put forth a lot of evidence that Quincunxes are very powerful and on par with all the other major aspects. They also consider it a postive aspect. (Unless Saturn is involved, then it is negative) And from my personal experience with the Quincunx, I tend to agree with them. pixelpixie http://www.adze.com/astro/aspects.html nove731Hm. I have two inconjuncts in my chart.Saturn Inconjunct MidheavenJupiter Inconjunct MoonMy Jupiter and my Moon are also in mutual reception (Moon in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Cancer). taurean_scorpionthanks for the site pixie.Gemini NymphAs a norm Mutable's right - they're not as significant, because squares, and other "major" aspects" are "louder" and "bossier" and tend to drown out these aspects when it comes to defining the basic character of the chart. With the expection of quincunx, I am comfortable calling those aspects "minor" aspecst - that means they play second fiddle to any major aspect in the chart, but can provide subtle nuances, color and variation. However, in some cases, they can be largely "outshouted" by bigger, badder major aspects, especially squares and conjunctions. But this laregly depends on the individual chart. The easy starting point is to assume they're not as significant and focus just on the major aspect. Then look at these minor aspects to help get a more nuanced understanding of the chart overall.A few notes:1) Semisextiles and semisquares can be more significant than normal if they form a aspect configuration, in particular a triangle not unlike a t-square. But instead of two squares sharing an apex with an opposition as a base, you have either:- two semisquares with a square for the base (extremely agrumentive, can be very pronounced in the chart, tends to produce a lot of tension, for better or worse)- two semisextiles with a sextile for the base (much quieter, but can act like a "energy pool" that collects energy rather than expresses it)2) Septsquisextiles are related to the 7th harmonic, and can be significant if you're looking at harmonic charts. Otherwise it's better to just focus on major aspects. Other 7th harmonic aspects - septile (51 degrees), biseptile (102-103 degrees), and triseptile (154 degrees) - are more significant when looking at the 7th harmonic anyhow. But either way, as a norm harmonic aspects tend to add flavor, color and nuance, or can provide talent, skill and inspiration, but are not as defining to the overall chart as major aspect. 3) The quincunx is the proverbial odd man out in aspects. It's a tricky one to intrepret. As a rule, I look at the quincunx as neither "major" or "minor" - it is in a class by itself. It doesn't usually provide overt defining influence to a chart, unless there's several, and especially when they form yods (and people with strong quincunx influence tend to be "odd men out" themselves). But quincunxes do seem to be very important on a long-term basis, and seem to indicate potential advantages, pitfalls, or detours a long the way of the native's personal development.nove731Hm. What are semi-squares and semi-sextiles, exactly? What's the orb for it? Hrm. I think the only (remotely) significant ones would be between the Sun and Venus...I don't think that's possible between the Sun and Mercury, though, is it?sweet_faceSo then what does Mercury Quincunx AscendantMean??????geminstoneHi Nove731 ~ A Square is 90 degrees; Semi-square is 45 degrees. Great link Pixie - really thorough regarding all the Aspects, and not easy to find. Thanks.------------------ ... it's better to light a candle than curse the darknessgeminirising26This is interesting.. supposing the semi's are not really important, what happens if you have a planet that is not highly majorly aspected except by minor aspects?for example. My Venus is conjunct Uranus, but Semi square my mars and pluto, and opposite my N.
