aries sun | What is the difference between rising and Asc.? The reason I ask is because I have virgo asc. and I thought that that was my rising, but then I was told that I have pisces rising on the asc. virgo. Also, why do some astrologers turn charts 180 degrees? |
jupitersgirl | They are the same thing. |
aries sun | If they are the same, then how come I have pisces rising on the asc. virgo, why in two signs and not one? I am confussed now. I did my chart on a software program I have and it says asc. virgo. |
Astralmuse | Are you left-handed?
|
aries sun | No, I am right handed. |
Geocosmic Valentine | Hi Aries Sun, The rising sign is the cusp of the first house. It is called the Ascendant. That line (really it is a circle, but that's another lesson) crosses from the left side of the chart to the right side. The end of the line on the right side of the chart is called the Descendant. The astrologer you used isn't using the proper descriptions or definitions or something. Nothing about the sentence you quoted makes sense. If your Ascendant is Pisces then the Descendant will always be Virgo. If your Ascendant is Virgo then your Descendent will always be Pisces. That's how it works all through the zodiac. Astralmuse | An ascendant is the same as the rising sign. You have one ascendant/rising sign. If you are a Virgo rising, your ascendant is Virgo. I doubt a practicing, competent astrologer told you that you are both a Virgo ascendant and a Pisces rising. They likely said you are a Virgo rising with a Pisces descendant and you misheard. |
aries sun | No, actually I got my mini astrology reading from an astrologer over email, so I have it in writing what was said. |
Hermes28 | You were most likely told you have Virgo RISING, and Pisces DESCENDANT. ...or Pisces on your descendant. As opposites in a circle (360 degrees), they are 180 degrees apart. Thus, if you were to rotate your chart 180 degrees, you would have Pisces RISING, with a Virgo DESCENDANT. |
aries sun | Thank you Hermes and GEO. Maybe that is what she meant. What is the difference between the asc. verses the dec.? What do they mean? And why do they turn charts? |
Hermes28 | Fellow Virgo rising here. The Ascendant is your outer image. The way you act in unfamiliar surroundings. The Descendant is the type of partner you are attracted to (your other half). Not necessarily Pisces, but people fitting those characteristics. The Ascendant & Descendant are always on opposite sides of the zodiac. Whatever your Ascendant/Rising is, your Descendant will always be the opposite sign. Opinions differ, but from the way I understand it, your Ascendant is the half of the pie you have in hand, and your Descendant is the other half you need/look for to make yourself whole. |

CoralFrequency | Based on that.. This is Einstein's chart: Can you tell me what his Ascendant/Descendant were? |
CoralFrequency | Here is your chart: The Asc is in Virgo and the Dsc is in Pisces. If you look up Ascendant/Descendant on google, you'll find a lot of interpretations. 'Ascendant' and 'Rising' always refer to the same thing. http://www.astrologyweekly.com/dictionary/ascendant.php http://www.astrologyweekly.com/dictionary/descendant.php http://www.personalreadings.info/Relationshops/The%20Ascendant%20Axis.htm http://www.artcharts.com/learn_astrology/houses.html |
aries sun | Coral, his asc. is cancer and I am guessing that his dec. is gemini? |
pidaua | aries sun, The "descendant" is always the opposite sign of the Ascendant / rising sign. So for Einstein- he has a Cancer Ascendant / Rising sign and a Capricorn Descendant. Gemini is before Cancer on the astrological wheel and therefore can't be the Descendant when Cancer is rising. I am a Virgo rising as well and Pisces rules my 7th house (as it is my descendant) edited to add; try this websites for information about the aspects (lines) and planetary meanings- www.astro.com - this site has an interactive chart program that will allow you to click on the line and pulls up an information sheet concerning the planets, signs and aspects. www.bobmarksastrologer.com - he has astrological lessons listed on his site that will enable you to learn at your own pace |
