BlueRaven | Most sites seem to only offer compatibility readings for signs of the opposite gender. I am just wondering what similarities or differences exist when doing compatibility readings for people of the same sex? I am Aquarius and he is Scorpio. I know according to most readings they aren't a very good match, but we hit it off immediately and there is rarely a dull moment. Perhaps the antiscia of our two signs is at play here? |
CherryVodka | It's probably more of a chart thing, I would examine your charts and compare them together maybe a synastry would give you some clues. i'm also interested in the same sex compatibility readings, there's none online! |
hippichick | Welcome! I have a big issue with genders and astrology... Folks tend to expect the same "qualities" from the sun and other placements, despite gender.. My rule of thumb is: 1) placements, plantes in signs and houses, aspects, etc. 2) gender...every sun sign and everyother placement will be colored by a gender...now you throw in a gay individual, and it is colored more. My eldest daughter is gay and her chart speaks of her so eloquently, but I have to remember, she is in love with a woman, and she is the more masculine of the two, so when I read for her and her gfriend, I have to remember, placements first, gender second then gender with a twist....

mcmlxix | Good question. In opposite sex attraction, typically the male projects his Venus on the female and the female projects her Mars on the male...or so we're taught. So in same sex attraction I wonder if it's as simple. The male projecting his Mars on the male and the female projecting her Venus on the female. But I think it'll be more complex than that. My Venus is in Leo, so why am I always attracted to Aquarius Sun females?!?! They're fun and iconoclastic, but they're usually unable to give my Venus the adulation it deserves. I find Leo Sun women (and men) tedious. There's only room for one monarch. Then I'm usually attracted to Capricorn Sun males. Their earthiness is sexy, and their calm is comforting, but in a short amount of time that translates into boring for me. My Mars is in Sagittarius and the centaur male is my ideal. But that pesky Capricorn is in my 5th house. Then Pisces and north node is in my 7th house and Venus in my 12th. I think my karma is tied up with Neptune. I just don't know what that implies exactly. I'm a Virgo Sun male, btw. |
mcmlxix | Another thing to add is that my Moon is in Cancer, which I think finds completion in a Capricorn Sun. Now maybe if he had a Sag rising or Mars we'd be getting somewhere! |

BlueRaven | Thanks for the replies everyone. I am not sure how all this would work. Can we really assign it by who superficially is more feminine and masculine between the two of us? |

mcmlxix | Now you have me thinking more about this. Cap in 5th for romance. I do know what that Neptune business is. I just don't like thinking about it. In matters of partnership I'll find fulfillment in dissolving my ego...my considerable ego*. Say it isn't so. * Venus Leo, Sun in 1st, south node in 1st conjunct Sun, Mars square Pluto, etc. What I've just given thought to for the first time is Sagittarius in the 4th. With the Cancer Moon, home is very important to me, but it dawns on me that making a home with a Sag is quite a possibility. Although, given the nature of Sag, that "home" might as often be just a backpack and passport as it would be brick and mortar. Anyway BlueRaven, I hope you can use these examples to understand you and your mate. |
mcmlxix | "Can we really assign it by who superficially is more feminine and masculine between the two of us?" I'm not sure about that. Everyone has masculine and feminine to a degree...some more than others. Overall, do you see yourself as more masculine, feminine, or balanced? Also your Moon/Venus will be your feminine principles and Sun/Mars the masculine. It's my personal opinion that Moon is the feminine you are, and Venus is your feminine ideal. Likewise Sun is the masculine you are, and Mars is your masculine ideal. The question becomes is the "ideal" what you want to be or want in others? |

I'd say only if it were overtly so. Sexual orientation shouldn't be confused with gender, however. I think most of the time it just takes a little common sense adaptation treating the gay couple as the same gender unless they've strongly defined their relationship among gender norms (btw, I do think there are rare times straight men & women should be counted more as the opposite gender astrologically as well). There's just not a big market for gay adaptions (and I have no idea how the niche market would work in this case, especially as I haven't met many gays into astrology and they're already a minority). I did go to an astrologer about a lesbian relationship (with my girlfriend) and she was very good. Even my girlfriend at the time was skeptical to the point of contempt was impressed after talking with her, and we found her very helpful. |

I think so. It comes down to synastry, too. I'm a straight female but have been in a 'masculine' role in some of my relationships. In one of them, the guy's moon was conjunct my sun, and in another, the guy's moon was opposite my sun. There were many other aspects, but I'm just using the sun moon one as an example. In both cases, I 'led' the relationship while the guy was more needy and dependent (and thus took on the 'feminine' role). I also have a 'masculine' chart (luminaries and planets in masculine signs). My gay friend and his boyfriend have interesting synastry. His boyfriend has Venus in cancer, while my friend has Venus in Aries. His boyfriend is the 'feminine' person in the relationship; he's super needy and moody!! Lol I will look up their synastry and post more. I think you can apply synastry interpretations to any relationship. The interpretations may assume male-female relationships, but do not seem to be gender-specific (as far as I've seen). |
AcousticGod | A lot of fixed sign Suns seem to be fascinated with other fixed sign Suns even if they're square. You might try the Aqua as male, and the Scorpio as female as those signs have those attributes, but as someone said, we all have mixes of energy in our charts. |
starmoon | i don't know how other people do it, but i generally make no consideration for gender and actually prefer to not know who is who in a synastry chart. for me the sex doesn't make any difference in the 'reading', it's how the planets are overlayed in synastry and how they aspect that make a difference |
Xiiro | The "rules" are the same regardless of sexual orientation. The focus is less on the individual's physical gender and more on the roles they fill in the relationship. TBH the traditional approach to heterosexual synastry (though functional in relationships with overtly cisgender couples). Doesn't apply to the whole spectrum either. |
virgolotus | I'm a gay male and I always do the normal synastry with other males and it's still really accurate. |
BlueRaven | mcmlxix, Thanks for your examples and input. I am not well versed enough to really be able to look at the details of our charts( I don't have a full one nor does he), but I guess that would be the next step to go with if we want to look further. In general I don't think either of us is more overtly feminine or masculine. I guess I am perhaps a bit more feminine, but I like the view point of not defining gender roles so to speak. |
Aries23Degrees | I'm a gay male and I often find that the usual synastry interpretation works and is accurate. There is a book available called "Gay love signs" but I found that it focused too much on male "masculine"/"feminine" gay archetypes. I just couldn't relate to the perspectives therein. I think compatibility goes beyond male/female gender roles and is all inclusive. I am with a Taurus/Taurus male guy myself and I find that when I read compatibility(especially the Moon-Moon compatibility) it describes our relation to each other quite well. Neither of us are "feminine" nor are we "straight-acting". Its not an "act", its whom we both are. ______________________________ Sun Sagittarius Moon Cancer Mercury Capricorn Venus Scorpio Mars Libra Jupiter Sagittarius Saturn Scorpio
