[b]About whole sign houses
The so-called whole sign system is really not a house system but a reversion to signs as its measure when the very purpose of any true house system is to anchor the 12 sectors to geocentric location and thus to the space-time dynamics of the native's starting place in life. In other words, 'whole sign' is an attempt to ignore what houses mean by ignoring that they are rooted in rotational dynamics of the Earth. Its only supposed virtue is the convenience given by avoiding the inconvenience of theoretical mathematical formulation.
The reason many claim 'whole sign houses' fits and is 'better' is probably because it introduces some averaging effects, which may change some placements by way of changing the goal posts. But no 'goal' is scored with whole sign, because it is not a house system. It is a convenience system.
About your chart
The 12th house positioning of your Cancer stellium may be more fitting, but if the birth time you have shared with us here is basically correct, then there is no chance of your Asc being in Cancer: zero. And no chance of it being in Virgo either. It is in Leo, an early degree ... or a late degree, but not another sign.
The all-important details you have probaly not considered
If your Asc is in early Leo it could be parallel Jupiter [17N49] and contra-parallel the Moon [19 south], but conjunct Saturn.
Moving into mid-Leo Asc is still be in parallel Jupiter and contra-parallel Moon, but Saturn would be in the 12th; far enough into mid-Leo and Asc could be widely parallel Jupiter, but not contra-parallel Moon.
Moving into later-Leo Asc moves into square with Jupiter and Venus square MC, with Mars parallel MC [10-12 north].
Asc in the last several degrees of Leo is parallel Mars-Pluto, contra-parallel Uranus.
There is no doubt you have Mars [11N34] parallel Pluto [11N54] with both contra-parallel Uranus [12S04]. You may have Venus in square aspect to MC, but not conjunct Asc.
The game changer in your considerations
You do have Sun [22N05] in ~exact~ parallel with Venus [22N05]. This is what has brought confusion about where your Asc 'should' be, because you rightly perceive the dominance of this aspect, which much like an exact conjunction brings into prominence Venus.

Kannon, your in-depth answers always fascinate me and give me hours of studying! I think we can conclude I have a late Leo Asc, or somewhere thereabouts. Mars parallel Pluto=yes, for certain, since it's a very prominent feature in me no matter where I try and hide. Sun/Venus parallel was something I hadn't even considered and will look into.
What still irks me, is that my chart feels off. I am happy with that Leo Asc but my Sun/Moon placement feels off UNLESS, there are some really strong underlying aspects tweaking their presence in 11H/5H. Perhpas it's so, that my Leo Asc IS much earlier degree. My mom is 1000% certain on my birth cert. but they have been wrong many times.
I need to add that I am not one of those that like to "adopt" a different sign placement because I'm not happy with what I've got, it's just the nuances of said signs that don't fit. I probably would have been dead by now had it not been for my moon's relentlessness and sheer iron will!
